Need to control Rotor with two different programs.

My rotor is presently controlled by DXView using com three ( hardware com port).  i would like to also use PST rotor to control it.
I know this is relatively simple except that I exceeded my brains use-by date.  I think I understand that this can be accomplished with DDUtil but I can't for the life of me figure out how.
If some kind soul would explain how to do this using very simple language I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks,
Gene K3GC

I believe having two programs attach to the same com device will prove problematic. Even something as simple as having the Elecraft test/configure programs for the KAT-500 and KPA-500, At least one of them doesn't cleanly close the com device after and when trying to open it with DDUtils there is a device in use exception thrown by Windows. While I am sure you could configure either to control it I think you find one or the other, not both.
In the above case I have to physically close the program to free the com port.

What are you seeing when you try to configure DDUtil to control it?

    Hi Gene,

I'd suggest joining the DDUtil Yahoo group. Steve, K5FR, is very active there and can give guidance on what you are trying to accomplish.

Also check out the DDUtil WiKi. There is a section on sharing rotor data between programs.

    Agree 100% with David

I normally run several programs at the same time controlling the rotor via RCP in DDUTIL

Taking a break from WPX Contest.. XYL is going to leave me to it finally tonite

    1.  I set up my rotor to work on COM1 (a physical Port)

Use the Other Tab in Setup

I usually list the connections to the Rotor Pots on the Ports Tab

In this case the Pair COM 8-18 is connected to HRD Rotor and/or Writelog (I never use HRD for Contests)

and the Pair COM 9-19 for MIXW

However the rotor can be connected to any program

What DDUTIL does is connects the Physical COM1 port to Virtual COM 18, 19 or whatever ports you want.
