Flex 6500 IP (CAT)

I am new on Flex 6500. Many time when I start the radio I get a wrong IP on the SmartSDR 1.3.8 access panel. I switch off and on the radio an finally I get the IP of my net. Is this normal?  and why I can not setup a fixed IP on radio? I use my router  DHCP with MAC Address reserved for FLEX, all other computers are working flawless fetching the good IP. Also CAT when I poweroff and the poweron the radio do not work. I have to manually close the process and restart CAT. Many thanks from Italy . IZ2AMW Paolo

    Paolo,

My 6500 does the same thing. I had to remove CAT from the start up menu as it would always start with the wrong IP address. I must start the 6500, then shut it down, then restart. Start CAT, start Smart SDR, then all ok.

In my case, I switched from using  direct cable connection between the radio and pc to using a wired router. I believe the "wrong" IP address is the one used previously by the direct connection.

    Very interested in any responses.

There have been many threads on this subject.  Basically they all come down to "The Flex must have access to your network DHCP when it powers up".  There are several flavours to how access is not present; in my case I have a 1GB network switch which is on the 12V battery and I must wait until it initializes until powering on the Flex.

    Dear Gary,
    thanks in sharing your experience.
From my side I have never used a direct cable. I guess again why the do not let us use a fixed IP.
An other issue can be the speed I also use a 1Gb network, maybe some timing in the IP request to the DHCP are wrong. We hope in a formal replay from Flex. Flex is a nice radio but to use with pleasure they have to fix this connection mess and cleanup the DAX/CAT IP request.
Many time after a good signal on band I switch up the TS990 and do the DX. Is really frustrating making DX with this setup.
    Thanks
    Paolo

    Dear Stan,
I always have the net ready to be polled by DHCP. It is clear that getting an IP on a class different from my Net is a Flex fault. I hope in the 1.4 version you can have a more accurate control over general connection settings.
You have also to consider that when for any reason (normally loud noise by fan, yes is the loudest radio I have in shack) I switch off the Flex during the next startup, without changing anything and with the Mac Address fix, Flex get a strange IP. This is really kink... and I have to reboot the PC.
    Hoping in official replay.
    Thanks
    Paolo

    Thanks for the further information.

If you have a repeatable process that results in an IP address in a different class, submit a problem report and keep us informed here.

    Thanks,  Stan
