I'm afraid not. SmartSDR is a windows program. The only way it would run in Linux is to use a VM (virtual machine).0

John,
SmartSDR from FlexRadio only runs on Windows. It will run fine in a Windows VM hosted on another operating system like Mac OSX (using Parallels) or on Linux with KVM or similar hypervisor.
I haven't tried running SmartSDR on Linux with the WINE interface but I doubt it will work - or if it does, very well.
Note this isn't an issue of the radio, its an issue of the thin clients.
There are partial clients (partial in currently lacking support for pan adaptors, DAX etc) running on Mac OS X (MacLogger DX), Apple iOS (my K6TU Control app) and on Windows using the N4PY software.
There are no technical issues in building full clients for other platforms, the API to the radio easily permits this but its a Serious Matter of Programming - resources, effort and time.
Hope this helps re understanding.

Thanks for the info . I am having so many problems with windows 8.1 I was hoping I could just switch over Maybe I will try to use linux for everything else and keep windows just for the radio . thanks again . John kb2huk0

The best switch I can suggest is for Windows 7 64 bit. 73 Enzo iw7dmh0

I recommend you to use Linux and VirtualBox, free VM from oracle, and run Windows 7/8.1 on virtualbox. It works without any problems.
