CAT port creation failure

Using SmartCAT 1.3.0, win 7 x64, rig - 6300
I have had to operate SSDR from my laptop for the moment as my main PC is badly affected by RFI - my laptop is immune.
I an having problems creating virtual ports with SCAT. I keep on getting an error box which says "Unable to create a new pair, please restart CAT". Doing that does not help and a port pair that I managed to create yesterday has vanished. I cannot recreate the steps I used to create that port
COM 4 is not even showing up in the port map as it should.
UPDATE: Just rebooted and all working well. The PC had veen sitting idle next to me for the past couple of hours and nothing had crashed. Next day rebooted and same thing again.
Any ideas team?
