ASIO audio connections and Stereo Tool Broadcast processor...

I have been playing with Stereo Tool audio processor as IU prepare to do some broadcast radio commercials. I was thinking it might be fun to play with it with my FLEX 6500 and 1500. I have gotten it to run with the 6500, but there is some latency that I would like to reduce. I am using it with my Heil PR22 Mike and Behringer Q802USB The web manual for Stereo Tool talks about ASIO devices. The ASIO setup for Stereo Tool lists the Flex Radio, but I cannot connect it. I am not at all familiar with ASIO. Can someone fill me in? Thanks

Hi Ken: Audio Stream Input/Output (ASIO) was first introduced by Steinberg, a manufacturer of music compilation and editing software, as a method to bypass the many layers of software through which Microsoft Windows passes audio data. The layers of Microsoft Windows software produced latency, or lag, between real-time and perception. ASIO provides direct access to "sound cards." It is widely used by musicians and audio engineers to directly access various types of audio hardware. We might not need ASIO in order to ameliorate the small lag we normally experience in amateur radio audio streams. As you can imagine, a millisecond or two of latency can result in bad outcomes when dealing with music production if some instruments or voices and not completely in sync with each other. I use ASIO with Avid Pro Tools 11, Propellerhead Reason 7, and Cakewalk Sonar X3 Studio music software. If you can successfully connect to your FLEX-6500 using an ASIO path that would certainly not create a problem. However, at this time it is not obvious that ASIO is necessary. Reg1
