API to connect to the radio

Member ✭✭
It would be nice to have some kind of plugin that could receive directly the signal from the stream , not having to pass the "sound" to other software by the mean of a virtual cable. And that plugin could do the decoding directly. this could be an api that connect to the software, well documented and the comunity could develop new software to decode and encode digital mode. this could even mean new fonction into the radio.

I've been suggesting to Flex for several years that we stop emulating sound cards. It's good that we can use the old software, but it's really showing its obsolescence with the 6000 series. I wish I could write the software, but signal processing is tough without formal education in it.0

I think that you will need to chat with each of the application developers, they would need to add a interface other than a soundcard it like the continued use of the CAT protocol, it's the most common way , and in most radios the only way to get frequency data into a program. Otherwise you would still need a sound card emulator. The DAX program solves that for the programs today. You also have take into account the bandwidth of the transport too. Just a few thoughts0

Pierre, we agree. We already have a FlexLib API that allows developers to completely bypass sound cards and CAT to interface directly to the radio over the network. We actually built CAT and DAX on top of that API. We have been supplying it to a few developers in an alpha form. We are working on a more formal program to make it generally available. Any of the 3rd party application developers can contact us directly if they are interested.0
