How do I work split RTTY using DAX and Fldigi?

I think I am probably missing something simple but . . . How do I work split? Each slice must have its own DAX channel. I do not see how to set up Slice A to receive on DX frequency and Slice B to transmit on my frequency unless I configure the soundcard in Fldigi. Is there a way to set up each DAX channel to fulfill the roles that Slice A and Slice B must play in a split configuration? Not sure I have made myself clear but am so confused! Tnx Mike, N1MD

Mike, implemented SPLIT function is not enough with freq covering for you ?

SPLIT does not work with Fldigi for me either as a stand alone program or using DXlabs with the Gateway working under DAX. Slice B will not transmit since it wants channel 2 and I cannot fathom how to set that up. Have spent hours trying to figure this out and am about to give up on using DAX for split digital work.

Depending upon how far you need to shift.... you can use XIT. If you want to zero the TX Frequency, use RIT to zero beat the other stations on the DX's receive frequency. Then set XIT to the same shift, reset RIT to zero back to the DX's transmit frequency, and you are off to the races in only one slice. (If there was only a button to make XIT = RIT, this would be easier.....)

Ken, Literally at 0430 this AM I thought about a similar approach. Woke me up from sleep. That's how much this has been bugging me! Tnx Mike, N1MD

I have set up two instances of Fldigi. Then open two slices and set one up on DAX channel 1 and the other on DAX 2. A little clunky since you need two windows open, but it is the only way I see to do it if you need to split more than a couple kHz. 73, Paul W5PF

Mike sorry, under split i mean RIT/XIT implemented for sure :-) , i guess 10kHz it is enough probably for you target.

Just a thought.....I haven't tried this yet, and I am away from the shack right now. Mike is this what you wee trying to accomplish in your original post? Can you set FlDigi up so that it receives on one DAX channel and transmits on a different DAX channel? i.e. sound out via DAX TX #1 and Sound in via DAX RX#2? If this can be done, you can use two slices, set one to DAX 1 TX and the other to DAX 2 RX and you would only need one instance of FlDigi to be opened. You would have to remember to reset the sound in/out to return to "normal" operations. I plan to try this this evening when I get home.

I tried this and it DOES work fine. Just a clunky way to do it! The more I think about it the more I like the idea of using XIT. Likewise I will try this if I get home at decent hour.

Did you change the TX in the DAC Control panel to channel 2?

Yes. Working split with Slice A on channel 1 and Slice B on channel 2 will not transmit on Slice B even with TX on Control panel set to channel 2

Remember to operate split on Slice A (RX) and Slice B (TX) you have configure 3 locations!!!! The slice have to configured, the DAX control panel AND the port audio config in fldigi. They all have to matching RX/TX. Works fine here!

Really don't need two instances of fldigi Just configure slices, DAX and port audio and it works fine with a
