No com ports show up on device manager.

Before I upgraded to the latest Beta, I would see a COM4 and COM14 for my flex 6700. Now I only see the flex usb kernel driver. There's nothing under ports. I'm assuming I need to specify the correct port to connect Fldigi to DAX. Am I missing something?

Tom, The ports may not show up in the device manaqer if your radio is not in a 'connectable' state. If the comports show up in the SSDR CAT control panel, then they are likely in the device manager too. CAT com ports are not the same as DAX soundcard ports.. For FLigi and most sound card programs you will need both. CAT for rig control and DAX for the audio strream. DAX does not depend on COM ports. Al, K0Vm0

I've wondered about this also. With the radio connected and CAT ports showing in Smart CAT, I'm not seeing them show up in device manager. I'm thinking that this is why I'm not able to connect to third part programs. Never had any problems like this with VSPmgr or Com0Com. Kirk, K6KAR0

Kirk, Do they show up when you select View >Show hidden devices? (win7/8) If they do, then you could try.. 1) in SSDR CAT > Serial Ports > delete all virtual ports then quit SSDR CAT follwed by 2) In device manager ports click on any remaining SSDR CAT ports and uninstall them .. Including hidden ports 3) ininstall any hidden ports related to other VSP programs 3) reboot the PC 4) re-create your SSDR CAT ports AL, K0VM0

Al, I don't know!! I'll certainly take a look later this afternoon and report. I'd forgotten about looking for hidden devices. Thanks for the reminder. Kirk, K6KAR0

I have hidden devices on but the ports don't show up.0

When I get desperate to see ports I use "regedit" and do search for "serialcomm" in keys. That will even show ports created by "vspe".0

Same here. I now have hidden devices set but other than those ports created by VSP I don't see anything generated by SmartSDR CAT. Also, using regedit and doing a search for serialcomm, the ports generated by VSP show up but those generated by SmartSDR CAT do not show up. Each time I've made any changes I've rebooted which may be overkill but nonetheless it doesn't hurt. Still no joy with SmartSDR CAT! Also in SmartSDR CAT in the box labeled "Physical Ports and/or Foreign Virtual Ports", nothing is showing!! Kirk, K6KAR0

Kirk, I had this problem and here is what I did to resolve it. 1. Uninstalled CAT 1.2.2.0 2. Reboot 3. Installed SmartSDR v1.0.5, which copies the old CAT version installer 4. Installed the older CAT 1.2.0.0 5. Ran CAT and added a port so that I had COM4 & COM5 connections. This now worked. I did not run SmartSDR v1.0.5 6. Uninstalled CAT 1.2.0.0 7. Reboot 8. Ran SmartSDR v1.0.24 installer to get the newer CAT installer back 9. Installed CAT 1.2.2.0 10. Now I had enumeration of the ports. Everything working great now. I am not sure why the ports went away or why this fixed the problem. The guys are going to look into this after the holiday. Gerald0

Thanks Gerald. I'll give this a try and report.0

Note that this worked when I did it on my Win 7 system but not on my Vista system. On the Vista system I can create port pairs using CAT and they show up in the Windows Device Manager. They don't enumerate in the CAT client though. I know they guys are going to look into why this is happening when they return.0

Gerald, this worked for me. I do have one issue using fldigi. Occasionally the waterfall has no relation to the signal and it seems to stop. If I try the gain in the SAX control panel it has no impact on the waterfall. If I run the DAK driver again, it works. Thanks, Tom W6TPA0

Gerald, Well it was worth the try but no, it didn't work. Note, This using Win8 X64. This doesn't appear to have anything to do with SmartSDR CAT but on a couple of occasions I noticed that DAX is not in sync with FLDIGI or visa versa. In any case, for the time being, 3rd party programs are inoperable. Back to using my 5000. Kirk, K6KAR0

If your problem includes a stuck waterfall, try reinstalling the DAX driver Tom W6TPA0

Any updates on this issue? I'm having the same problem with 1.3.8. Virtual COM ports setup in SmartSDR CAT do not show up in third-party programs such as DDUtil or the Classic Analog S-Meter, or DM. They only show up in the CAT 1.3.8 window itself. Do I need to uninstall everything and start over? Thanks. 73 de Carl, N8VZ0
