How does one setup fldigi for PTT using a SmartSDR Cat generated comport?

I am a complete novice when it comes to fldigi. Can someone help me set up for PTT from a comport assigned by SmartSDR CAT? I've tried several approaches, none of which work.

Set up a PTT comport through SmartCAT. Set it up for RTS not Shared nor Dedicated. In fldigi go to Configure/RigControl and select the Rig CAT tab. Make sure "CAT command for PTT" is NOT checked" then press Initialze button. Then go to Hardware PTT tab and select "Hardware PTT using the lower comport number of the pair generated for Device. Also check the "Use separate serial port PTT" and also check "Use RTS" then initialze and save.

I've tried both methods shown above with no luck. I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. Do either of you use Teamviewer? If so, and if you are willing, you could take a look at my setup.

OK Guys, I finally got it working, using Don's method. I has to do a system recover and reinstall SmartCAT, and that seemed to do the trick. Not sure why, but hey, it works!

I have 8 physical serial ports on my PC. How do I connect to fldigi from SmartSDR / SmartSDR CAT? flidig only seems to have COM 1 thru 8 available for connection.

There is a default com port set up in SmartCat and it is usually defaults to port 4 but not always. especially if there are already other devices using port 4  This is the port you would use for Cat info.   What you can do is physically change com 4 on you PC which I am guessing is one of the 8 physical ports assigned your PC from the 8 port serial card to to some port number out of the range  of 1 through 8 or 9.  In order to do so go into Control Panel then look for Device Manager. In Device Manager you will see a listing for Ports (COM & LPT)  This will show the assignment of all COM Ports.  Select COM4 and right click then go to Properties then to Advanced.  This is where you can change the assigned port to another com port freeing up COM4 for SmartCAT.  If you are not using all the physical com ports I would change the ones you are not using to something in the range of com 30 or higher. SmartCat assigns in pairs e.g. com4-com14, com5-com15, etc.  When you assign to external programs use the lower number and SmartCAT will use the higher number of the pair. You can create additional com ports through SmartCAT for keying , and additional CAT ports if needed.  Make sure after you physically change the com port or ports you reboot the pc.  After ther reboot go back in and check the com ports and then if you have com4 available start SmartCAT and the your Flex.  You will be able to see the assigned default port in SmartCAT.  Hope this helps.

I created h/w PTT after I created a port just for FLDIGI.  Used info from Don in post above for reference.  Most important point is to reboot the PC. TX will not work without reboot.  FLDIGI working FB now.  Thanks for the posts.
