Smart SDR lockup/crash

First and foremost. I am a new flexer having owned a 6700 since just before Thanksgiving. I love this radio! However, Smart SDR seems to be a bit unstable with Windows 8/8.1. Software will crash, and I get one of three things happening. First, a random complete shut down/restart of the computer, a pop up window telling me SDR has stopped working or the dreaded blue screen giving one of several different messages. This happens when I run through my LAN or direct connect to a computer. Happens on three different machines one of which is running nothing but windows 8.1 and Smart SDR. Is this a common issue that will work itself out through revisions or am I doing something wrong/missing something. Thanks Verne / K4VAE

The problem is not windows 8.1 because I am using that without an issue. I would look closely at the video and CPU usage as well as the stability of the network connection. If you are using a WiFi connection consider a wired connection for testing.

Thanks Robert. Each of the three computers have good video cards, CPU usage is low and no WiFi. Two computers run through a Cisco switch ans the last machine I built up to test and is direct connect to the radio with nothing but windows and Smart SDR installed. At first I thought there might be an issue with t eh network thoughput but does not appear the network is bottle necking. Also that should have been a non issue when I went direct to the computer. Thanks agn, I am having a blast and will keep looking for what I am doing wrong. 73's Verne K4VAE

Thanks Tim, I spoke with Dudley this afternoon. Looks like we are well into working on my problem. This is not the norm and we expect to find that I have something wrong on my end. Thanks for the quick response and help!

I have also had this problem with a program exception using a laptop with Win 8.1. The error should just require a SSDR restart. Any reason the SSDR aborts (including having the laptop power down due to over heating (99% utilization for 20 min) introduces a problem with SSDR/6700 communications. SSDR cannot recognize an orphan slice/receiver upon restart. The 6700 continues to feed audio for a receiver that cannot be controlled. It requires a 6700 power off/on cycle to clear.
