Delay

I just got my new 6700 up and running. Have it going into a switch and then into router switch. I notice a significant delay on several of the indicators such as the power out bar reading as compared to actual speaking into the mic. Also tuning, a significant delay when you drag the tuning bar also between the audio / rf signal and display appearance Perhaps there is something in the setup that I have set incorrectly. Fred W1FC

Hi Fred, A couple of things that might help... 1) Is there a way to simplify your network configuration? What speed it is running at? 2) What are the specs on your PC, particularly the video card? SSDR is very graphics intensive, particularly when the Display FPS is set high (default). 3) I think the metering is pretty heavily damped/averaged, so that may be something you're seeing, too. Note to Flex - is there a way to make the meters more responsive, particularly the SWR meter? 73 & Welcome to the family. Having a blast with my 6500, and learning more about it all the time. Hmm, I was under the opinion that this new series of radio had very modest PC hardware requirements as the processing was done in the radio!

All of the DSP process is done inside the radio, but if there is latency in the network connection which passes the spectrum data to SmartSDR or in the rendering of the application's graphics by the video adapter, that can result in the observed latency. Rendering the high resolution FFT spectrum display is very graphics intensive and if the video card is not up to the task or if the CPU is performing the graphics rending, that will result in an inherent latency such as the one seen by Fred.

Yes, I understand the comment on the network latency, but a have seen your own demonstration on a notebook. Surely this had modest video card specs?

The key here is that the Graphics have hardware acceleration. Some very modest net-books have good GPU's with acceleration, so Tim may have been using one of those. There is a KB article here, by Tim. http://helpdesk.flexradio.com/entries/22808247-Troubleshooting-Graphics-Issues-with-SmartSDR-Win
