Are BAND MARKERS Somewhere in our future ?

I don't see them on the ROAD MAP I know there are considerations as relates to Class of License and Operations in countries outside of the United States, It might also be nice if the Op just put in his Class of License and the markers followed... Just a BEEP would be nice (Thats all my ICOM does) but I know Flex will somehow provide a more ELEQUENT SOLUTION... WHOOPS! I forgot I sold my ICOM Ken W9IE

Why? By that time the program is written all hams will be granted Amateur Radio Extra Class licenses and there would be no need for band segments. I applied for mine and I got one. You can do the same if you know which side of a pencil you use for writing.0

I don't understand your responce Ernest... I was just looking for some small idea of when and if it was in the plan. Mabe FRS will respond. Ken W9IE0

Ken, I keep up with FRS and I don't think that anyone else has proposed that. I know that FRS radios have different band plans for countries that they sell to. When you open SmartSDR it said the region that is it set for. I know what you are saying and I believe your idea would be a good one; then you know if you are operating within your bands limits. However, I hope the current license operators know the band edge for their license privilege. Or is this is not being though by the guaranty pass in so many hours? Or, go for tech to extra in one sitting? By the way, you can open it for suggestion and let's see how many like your idea? If enough think is good, the next thing we have to do is pay for their work by integrating it into a future release. Finally, my last comment was meant for todays HAMS?0

There was some "dreaming" done a while back on the yahoo reflector that band edges, and or whole sub-bands could have different colored backgrounds with transparency. They could also include different "band plan" and "gentlemen's agreement" frequencies highlighted in the display backgrounds, similar to what they have in PSDR. It has been quite a while since I saw that, and I don't remember who said it.2

Thanks, I knew I had seen that and even commented on it somewhere!0

N5FD - Bruce Some only care about the bottom 25 kilohertz anyway. So if one learns the lower limit on the standard bands only the WARC bands need attention. There is a unkown marker at the low end on 18 MHZ band so not problem. With the Flex radios one can see the modes in action by the waveforms on the panadapter e.g. interrupted signals vs, "double **** rtty" etc. Much clearer on a waterfall. So the band plan is visible for the most part. I go for the bottoms of each band -- perhaps that makes me a "bottom feeder". I'm OK either way either for or against band edge markers. But lean against clutter The nice frequency readout makes it easy to know ones own frequency to several decimal places.0

I Agree with not adding CLUTTER to the Screen... A simple vertical line marking the TOP and BOTTOM of the band on the Panadapter would work great for me. The Op should then be aware of his individual MODE and FREQUENCY within the Band1

When I first thought of this functionality, the idea of just tinting the background slightly with a color coordinated by license class or allowed mode.0

I vote for a simple vertical line marking the TOP and BOTTOM of the band on the Panadapter. For contest will be nice to have the oppertunity to put on some QRGs additional individual vertical line to mark the band-limits visual, independetly of the panadapter span. That will be useful.
