Receive Audio

I notice that the audio has a "digital" sound to it. Compared to the audio on my Yaesu, the audio on the 6500 sounds a little rough. Is this normal and will it be improved?

Sorry to hear that. My experience is that it is the best recovered SSB audio I have ever heard...Well done Flex0

absolutely fantastic recovered audio .0

Richard, Could you share what you are listening through? My powered monitors add a lot of character I don't hear on my Kenwood when doing A/B testing (I personally like it with a little equalization - thx flex). However, when I use my Radiosport headset, the Flex really shines in an A/B setup. 73 Brad - N6SPM0

OK I am using M-audio powered speakers. AV-40 cost aprox 138.00 Listening you will also hear Some transmitted audio that is very bad. It isn,t the Flex .And no receiver on the market will resurrect that to good audio.0

Are you listening with the NB on or NR? Maybe you might want to widen your receive bandpass filtering from the default values.. It's different in the SmartSDR to change the RX bandwidth, but there is a "widget " at the bottom of the the yellow vertical line in the slice, this is the BW widget , click and move the edge for the bandwidth, from 100 to 0 maybe and high end 2900 to 3100 or wider. It takes just a little getting use to.. Also adjust the AGC-T control (just to the right of the ACC speed selection) adjust for the best signal to noise, and you will find the sweet spot, much like the AGC-T on PowerSDR .2

Ed, what about the AV30 speakers? A bit less $.0

I am considering upgrading my speakers. I am using a cheap pair of USB powered speakers. What speakers have others found to work well? Dudley, you mentioned the AFC-T control to the right of the ACC speed selection. Where is the ACC speed selection? There is a control just below the left/right speaker slide switch. Is this it?0

I think that was a typo for AGC speed (fast, medium, slow)...0

Checked out the AV-40 on another hams reasoning. He tried bose , Creative labs T20 , AV-30 and the AV-40 . Similarly I have tried the M-2 ,T-20 , and Now the AV-40 .Skipped the AV 30 on his comparison The M-2 went back on my computer, The t-20 went on direct tv , and the AV-40 Lives on the Flex 6500. Go to a Music store and plug all of them into a i pad and listen before you buy them. Bring the extra cash with you because you will bring the AV-40, s home.0

I am also getting noise in my transmitted audio when I plug the 3.5mm jack on the back into the line-in on my computer. No transmitted noise is heard if I use the SignalLink through the ACC connector for audio, then I can leave the computer volume at normal, but then I can't put one slice on the right speaker and one on the left, because the audio is not stereo. I can plug headphones directly into the 3.5mm jack and get no transmitted noise. I do have ferrite cores at each end of the 3.5mm to line-in cable. My plan is to replace this cable with a better shielded cable.0

Ed, I am looking for good audio for my 6500, but before I spend over $100 for a pair of speakers which undoubtedly will give good sound when you are listening to high fidelity music, how does the high fidelity capability of the speakers help when you are listening to a low fidelity source such as SSB? My space is also somewhat limited and I see that the AV40s take up a bit of space. You have seemed to notice the difference using the AV40s; can you give me some more details?0

Ok let's see. You asked for a suggestion. On a amplified speaker system I gave you my solution. The av 40 units are 1 1/8. Wider than the. T 20. No wall wart. Clean crisp . Bring a wav. File with your the visit to the audio store play that through all their speakers. And see which one plays better. More and more ssb signals are actually enhancing their audio Low Fidelity. ??? Some ham radio stations using ssb sound like the bbc. . The flex radio. Produces one of the best ssb audio signals out there . If you are only listen to signals 2.4 wide. Then who cares .0
