VOX

The VOX control is horrible. It's hidden a the bottom of the transmit control panel. Neeeds some serious work before you can use it effectively.

    I can't even find it!

The TX control panel doesn't shrink proportionally with the size of the SSDR window. If you have the window pulled up short, the VOX controls are probably hidden below the bottom of the window.

I can't see it either, even after I expand to max, or minimize, or try to expand at the bottom of the screen..I'll try again tonight when I get home...it's like a hidden Easter egg hunt!!!!

You should see it if you maximize the SmartSDR window.

You may have a resolution setting conflict that is not allowing your screen to display the whole screen even when maximized. Mine shows up fine on both a 22 inch Samsung 1080P TV/HDMI monitor and on a cheap 19" Dynex LCD TV running in RGB monitor mode.

Thanks Ken for the info. I'm using 2 monitors, one is a Dell 22-23" HD/HDMI input, the other an Acer 19" VGA input. I'll try different resolutions tonight.

I think this is a genuine issue for someone running a laptop. We need a way to select the visible panes so that the lower panes can be usable.

While I agree it would be good to have the flexibility of selecting panels, most laptops, notebooks, and tablets delivered in the last few years can show everything -- all of mine do, and my IBM Thinkpad X60 goes back to 2006 as I recall.

I correct myself. The Asus Intel i3 notebook I'm now using with my 6700 does not have enough screen real estate (it has 1366 x 768) to show the VOX controls. I do have it attached to another monitor (in this case a Vizio 22 inch TV with 1920 x 1080) that does display the VOX controls. This gives me two screens -- Flex on one and QRZ or a digital program on the other, for example.

If you have a limited height display ( 1024x768 ) you can get to the VOX control panel if you right-click-hold on the the top edge of the EQ panel and drag it down. As you drag the EQ panel down, the VOX control panel should slide up to replace it. You may also need to zoom SSDR to full screen. AL, K0VM

Changed the text size from large to medium in order to see the VOX controls. Didn't change the resolution 1396 x 1080. Still can't get the VOX to work properly with a Heil ProSet 5. Misses the 1st syllable not matter how I adjust the mic or vox gain, with or without COMP. No anti-VOX either, the littlest sound trips the VOX when I get it set even close to being usable. Hopefully it will be a normal VOX operation in version 1.0. Back to PTT for a while.

Gerald posted earlier: First syllable delay is being fixed in the next version. He reported that in his testing it is working much more smoothly. Anti-VOX is another story. I am not sure how they will implement this with multiple audio streams being sent to stereo speakers, each one able to be balanced differently... Unless they sample each audio line right before the line out to the powered speakers and incorporate a double comparator to cancel each one. I think it can be done through the software, but I think Anti-VOX is going to be a real hassle for them to get it right. Eventually these geniuses will, but probably not before V. 1.0.... (Just my wild guess) For now, if I want to use VOX, I am going to have to use headphones.

I used VOX with speakers for about an hour with v0.17.4. I had no first syllable clipping and did not have problems from the speakers so long as I ran the audio at a reasonable level. Note that PowerSDR does not have anti-vox. We have a strategy to handle anti-vox in SmartSDR that may or may not make it into v1.0. We certainly won't hold v1.0 for that.

I would quit trying until you get v1.0 next week. VOX was fixed in v0.17.4 but you won't get to play with it since it is an interim release. v0.16.4 is the last one the Preview group will see before v1.0.

That is good news, Gerald! I agree, I certainly wouldn't delay V.1.0 for anti-vox. As long as I know it is coming sometime relatively soon, that is good for me.

OK if you look for the VOX control on the transmit screen pop up you can do the following Place your mouse cursor on the top grey banner of the VOX box and you can move it any where in that transmit screen . Hope this helps the NON FINDERS Vox is working great, Sure Anti Vox addition would be an improvement .

I concur. I would like to see a technical explanation of why anti-vox should not be needed in SDR radios. There must be some logical digi-widgie reasoning. I cut me teeth with a SDR1000 and have evolved to this point with the 6700 with two 5000's in between. I still stomp-to-talk with a footswitch for SSB, but flawless hi-speed Vox is nice in nets...
