FLEX 3000 GROUNDING PROBLEMS OR IS IT?

FLEX 3000 SDR Had a problem where the Flex went "pop" and needed to visit the service centre. Had been using it for 3 or 4 months with no problems. There had a developed a small problem with the power supply switch not switching on properly without a tweak but once on worked OK. Unsure whether the power was "chopped" but things went pear-shaped. Has anyone had this problem or has it been just plug in and away we go. The response below is from Norbert at the service centre in Germany but it seems a lot of hooking up where I thought it would be a straight forward plug and play. To your possible grounding problem: To prevent any damage when plugging the data cable at the Flex, check if there is any DC or AC voltage between PSU, computer and ground. Better: Connect a simple wire between chassis of all three units and ground them, so no static or stray voltage may harm the radio. Then plug the data line and switch on. I had many units destroyed by different potential between computer and Flex, killing the FireWire data transmitters/receivers in the Flex radio, so this is a completely safe way. Regards Frank MW1RES

The new FlexRadio Support Community is currently only supporting the FLEX-6000 and the SmartSDR for Windows software. Support for the SDR-1000, FLEX-5000, FLEX-3000 and FLEX-1500 which run the PowerSDR software can be found at the FlexRadio Knowledge Center and the FlexRadio HelpDesk. You can also try posting your request on the FlexRadio Reflector too. To facilitate addressing your SDR-1000 support request, I have created a HelpDesk support ticket from your Support Community report a problem post.0
