creating specific cat numbers in smartcat

I can't find any 'help files' on creating comports in SmartCat. I just found out that I had to delete my old VSPM created cat pairs that I used to run my logging and contest programs. Is there a help file on how to create a specific number? Many programs will ONLY accept com ports up to 8. Some old relic of dos days I think. For instance, I wish to create and use com 4 for DXLabs Commander. Having trouble figureing out how to do dat! LOL

Bill, You can't create a specific port number but you can create as many as you need in sequence. If COM4 is the lowest numbered port available on your machine (and you eliminated the conflicting VSP Manager ports) then CAT will assign COM4 as your first dedicated port. You can then add port pairs which will automatically be assigned in ascending order (5-15, 6-16, etc.). To create a port pair: Open the CAT form. Go to the Serial Ports tab. Click the "Add a Port" button. Check whether you want the port to be dedicated, shared, or ptt. Click the "Accept" button. A new port will appear on the list, right now it only reads the low end number but the opposite end is always +10 (next version shows both). If you wish to change the automatically assigned dedicated port to another available port number, just highlight the port you want in the "Available Flex Virtual Ports" list and click the "Change Assigned Port" button. If the port you picked wasn't a "dedicated" port, it will automatically be converted to one. BobT1
