Unwanted Sideband Rejection Bug?

George KF2T

Periodically, I observe my transmitted signal shows very little opposite sideband rejection and multiple audio products. At least from what I can see on the panadapter. By shutting down and removing power from the 6500 for a few minutes, the problem is cured for a while. It does come back, although I haven't been able to identify how and when exactly. I have seen "duplicate" signals on JT65 lately, and wonder if they're caused by a) other 6000-series users with the same issue, or b) a similar problem on receive, too. Or, it could be coincidence... SSDR 0.12.17, Flex 6500, Windows 8, 64-bit.

I have recently started using JT65 and JT9 with my 6700 and noticed the same signal appearing twice in the waterfall. I right-clicked the audio icon (mute) in the slice that I was using to transmit (I operate split with WSJT-X) and the problem seemed to go away. I did not think that the slice speaker icon controlled the line out audio levels, but apparently it does, at least with the current version. If the 6700 is not designed to mute the audio on the transmit slice when operating split, it should be re-designed to do so. SSDR 0.12.17 running under Windows 7/32, DIGIU mode.0

Interesting, Ed. I observed this issue with a single panadapter and RX. No split.0

Hello all, I reported this bug to Flex about 4 weeks ago. They reported back to me that the problem has been identified and will be fixed in a later version of the software.... It only happens on the 6500 unfortunatly. Dennis, k0eoo0

This turned out to be a timing problem in the reset logic in the FPGA code. It has been fixed but it did not make it into the most recent 0.13.10. It will be in the release that follows. I have found that you can usually fix the problem by rebooting the radio.1

Thanks for the info, Gerald. 730

I understand the delay getting the fix into this latest update, but, its been a real pain starting and restarting my 6500 so it doesn't generate the unwanted sideband. I don't think Flex wants me transmitting the unwanted sideband for all to see, not good advertising; so I stay off the air if starting and restarting doesn't fix the problem.... Last night I only got it to work properly once....0
