Beta and WSJT-X

Paul M Member ✭✭
Since the upgrade to the Beta version I have had issues with retries with WSJT-X 16.   At first when changing bands I would get the dialog on WSJT-X to retry and it would connect to the radio.   Then it would take a reboot and now it will not connect at all.  I have uninstalled and reinstall without change.  I am wondering if need to remove all te SMARTSDR software and do a clean install?   Any suggestion are appreciated.  I have not tried rolling back to the last stable version.

Paul, everything depends on how you connect WSJT-X to SmartSDR.
I use MiniDeluxe and never have had any issues.
Please post your connection and maybe a screenshot.

I use the Kenwood TS-2000 setup but have tried omnirig, TS-480 which has worked in the past and Ham Radio Deluxe.  Today I downgraded to 1.9.13 and all is back to normal.    I am getting retry every so often when I change bands but the two programs are communicating again.   I use the Minidelux in DDUTL to drive the HRD logbook but I have never been able to get WSJT-X to use the HRD Setting.

Also on the CAT panel Com 12 shows connected to WSJT-X on both the Beta and on 1.9.13 but on the Beta there is no contact  just a Hamlib error'IO error while open connection to rig'

You may have another Radio Control option available. A few compiles back, before the 1.7.0-GA version was released (so it's working in the current GA release on Sourceforge), the  FlexRadio 6xxx option became functional. To use it, Try localhost:5004 in the Network Server settings box in WSJT-X in File / Settings / Radio Tab.

It's been working for me, when configured as above, for several weeks now.

Local host:5004 Does not work for me. Kenwood ts2000 only setting that works.

    OOPs ...

I forget one other little detail, sorry. for the FlexRadio 6xxx option to work it will likely need a TCP port (I used 5004), set up in SmartCAT. It needs to be able to connect to a TCP port on the PC your running SmartCAT on.

    image

SmartCAT is already connected to the rig over ethernet. The TCP CAT port gives you a port for WSJT-X to connect to. (Port # is up to you)

Also be sure your firewall isn't blocking that port.

Maybe that will get it working.

Well just got it working but used LAN address with the 5004 port number working great. Did not add entry to CAT. Wonder why it works. Actually working perfectly with out errors.

Maybe I don't need the SmartCAT TCP port either, When it started working, I stopped experimenting with it. "When it starts working, it ain't broke, go break something else, before you start doubting your abilities" image

I can usually break things on the very first try.
I don't usually even need to read the docs first.

My bad not working as the config reverted back to ts2000. Set up cat for 5004 tcp port now working as advertised. Darn computers play tricks......

You did take the hint to upgrade to WSJT-X 1.7.0, right?
It's the real deal now, not a release candidate.
    Several new features now work!

    Okay Pat and Jay.

I am trying to pass audio to JT/65/9 and my DAX TX Stream say that I am streaming. I  hear the  tones and my TX Stream it indicates that it is streaming however no power is indicated and the panadapter goes black on transmit for the 48 seconds duration.
I used Jay TCP:Port 5004 and Pat I used the  F-6700 IP address, the slice is set to correct one (B) in my case. Transmit DAX is Blue (on)
I had it going for a while and all the sudden it stop. Do I need to setup a Sound playback "DAX Reserve Audio (RX3) Or, how are you getting the tones to the transmitter?
    Any suggestions?

And then ensure that this is lit Blue.

I'm triggering the PTT with CAT, but If I understand what you said, your
    not having any PTT problems.

I'm only selecting PC as the source because it lets me select DAX enabled. I don't want any chance of BAL, or MIC audio being mixed in and broadcast.

That should work in theory at least.
    Unless I'm forgetting something.image

Pat those settings  are all set correctly and  working fine.
it's just no tones to modulate the transmitter audio level. This happened when I switch to the X version.
Dudley recommended to go back to and older version. However, I had deleted all the old versions and I could not find it on the WSJT website.
I see that you mentioned to upgrade to WSJT-X 1.7.0. that was recently released.
I am going there now to download it.

I've had a lot of trouble getting the older WSJT version to work. I used it in the past, But I've slept since then. WSJT-X has worked fine for me since around version 1.4, so I usually don't try too hard with the original WSJT.

I like being able to work JT65 and JT9 simultaneously from the same slice with a 4K filter. I also like that WSPR is built-in as just another mode.

    Still not  solved.
I must have unchecked or using the wrong audio sound selection  that it is preventing audio to modulate the tones only on JT65/9.
HRD is working GREAT... guess I'll do more PSK and RTTY etc...for a while and maybe get my head back on to continue this JT65/9 problem.
    Thanks all.

    Hey Jay,

Thanks for letting the group know about the new release of WSJT and the update to support 6k over ethernet. I followed your guideline and had it up and running in 10 seconds. Originally was using a vTTY but now connection is IP based.

    Many Thanks,
    k3Tim

When i run more than one wsjtx instance, i have to assign more tcp ports?
Every slice has is own tcp-port?

Correct, each slice needs it's own port. The 6500 has 4 slices, I configure 4 TCP ports, and 4 Virtual CAT ports, one for each slice. This way I can run any App on any slice, no matter what sort of CAT it speaks. I configure both Virtual and TCP PTT ports also. But only a single pair of them.

Ernest the info I gave was wrong due to computer reverting the wsjt config back the ts2000 config. So don't use IP address. Use the localhost:5004 (actually any unused port will do) and set up cat for tcp on that same port. Had to do restart on cat after save and restart of wsjt to make it work. After that it will run ok at startup.

Anyone wondering why, "DAX RX 2"? Because Slice A and Fldigi have DAX RX 1 tied up.

I can not seem to get this to work at all. I have tried on 3 different pc's they are all win10 x64 and I have a flex6300. I have tried the beta and also rolled back to the normal release and wsjt-x 1.7 I can use TS2000 cat and it works great but TCP just gives a hamlib error. I have no windows firewall and have setup TCP in the smart cat with 5004 port restarted everything. Don;t know if its a win x64 thing or flex 6300 issue. Any suggestions?

Edit: Just also tried with my tablet thats win10 x86 still the same problem. Has anyone with a 6300 got this to work?

Are you installing a freshly downloaded copy of WSJT-X downloaded from SourceForge?

This feature is only about 3 days old.

Sorry I guess i didn't make clear that this is a new trick.
    A new undocumented trick.
We are still learning how to do the trick.
Didn't work at all on anything prior to the WSJT-X 1.7-rcX release candidates. But it's fixed in the WSJT-X 1.7.0 final release.

Jay thanks for the help. yes I am using wsjt-x 1.7.0 final release. I am starting to think that its something different with the 6300. I just tried it on win 7 x64 same issue.
I just worked my 50th confirmed US state on jt65 this evening I got my Xmas present early :)

You might be right. I've only got a 6500 to play with here. Or, I might not be explaining it all correctly. I did kinda stumble my into getting this to work. After monthsyears of waiting for them to fix Hamlib3. I'll sleep on what might be going on with a 6300 model but to be honest I don't think Hamlib3 knows one model from any other 6xxx model. Stay tuned! I'm stubborn with things like this.
