Flex radio and MARS ALE

I recently read a thread in which a member stated MARS ALE will not work with Flex radios because of scan issues. Does anyone have a direct experience with this? I was recently encouraged to discontinue using Flex radio with tuner genius and power genius.

    from Ion2g documentation:

What do you need to use ALE?
    Transceiver
Normal or Hybrid ALE stations should use a modern CAT capable transceiver, capable of scanning without
the use of mechanical relays. Ion2G supports a number of transceivers natively, with additional
transceiver support via the use of FLrig. SDR transceivers such as Flex also work, though still require
    additional manipulation.

They do not provide any details on what "additional manipulation" means.
