Fan Noise Comparison? - 6000 series VS 8000 series

For those of you that have had both series, how does the fan noise on a 8000 series compare with a 6000 series? I own a 6500 and a 6300 and have used 6700's, so I'm familiar with the sound level and audio frequency of the fans in those radios. I've managed to attenuate them by the use of rack mount and sound absorbing material in the rack, so it's tolerable.

But the 8600 is considerable larger and perhaps has larger fans? I've seen a few posts about people talking about the fan noise in the 8000 series. I prefer to use speakers and not headphones, so it is a concern. I can install it remote in a closet in the next room where my main amplifier lives and do remote power on if need too, but I'd prefer to keep in at the desk. I obviously won't buy with a front control (M version) if I go this route.

Thanks,
Scott AC8DE

My 8600 fans are louder(and noticeable) than my 6400, which I can barely hear, but about the same for a 6600 that I had before the 8600. Might be good to have a good noise cancelling mic for an 8000. I use a Shure MV7+.

Thanks for the information and that answers my question perfectly. I'll plan on operating the 8600 from remote in the amplifier closet. Like I said, I prefer to keep the headphones off and use my monitor speakers and I don't want to listen to the fan noise, so changes to a mic set-up won't help there.

I have a well-above-average microphone and audio processing set-up with years of professional audio experience. Currently I use a Heil PR40 (great off-axis attenuation), downward expander, etc., etc. I also have A LOT of sound absorption going on in my station. (Not updated in photo on QRZ yet) Once I'm talking and the downward expander is out, you still hear the background air rush which sounds like white noise on air which hurts intelligibility. That's going to be true of any microphone, including the MV7+. While amazing, there are limits to what DSP technology can accomplish.

I had to send mine back due to a rubbing/crackling noise like the fan was hitting the cabinet; apparently i was not alone right out of the box; the 520M fans are about the same noise
