XLR cable outputs for 8400M and Heil microphone

Good Morning. I have an 8400M that works fine with the hand mic but I want to use the Heil 781 microphone with the radio. I have confirmed that the microphone works and I have xlr cables that terminate in the proper plug for the mic. I can not get the microphone to work. I know this is a simple task but it is giving me fits. I have the proper setting in the radio and have tried everything. I got the cables from amazon, so maybe that's my problem.

My 781 works great with my 6600M, but I use the balanced audio input that does not exist on the 8400M.

    1) Be sure that the mic cable is a truly balanced XLR to 1/8 inch TRS cable. Many of those sold online are not balanced and are wired to use a XLR Balanced mic on a computer's unbalanced input, or they combine the TIP and RING and send them to the Pin 2 of the XLR plug.

Your cable should be wired like this:

    XLR > > > > > TRS

    Pin 1 > > > > SLEEVE/GROUND
    Pin 2 > > > > TIP
    Pin 3 > > > > RING

Here is one that would work:

Amazon.com: CableCreation 3.5mm (1/8 Inch) Stereo Male to XLR Female Cable, 6 Feet/Black : Electronics

    2) Please refer to this document for adjusting your mic settings.

    Hi Nell,

I also got myself an XLR microphone. It works with the Flex-6700, but I can't seem to configure it as the default microphone. How did you set it up? I must be doing something wrong. Could you please send me step-by-step instructions? I'm using the Maestro B with hardware version v4.1.3.39644. Unfortunately, I can't seem to save the settings via the Maestro. 73 de Carsten, DO5CA
