Using a Flex 6400 with a Iphone 14 Pro on 5G while Mobile.

Like to ask this question to those that use a Flex 6400 remote with an iphone.

How many are using a Flex 6400 with an Iphone 14 Pro. With IOS version 26.0 and App version 7.0.85 on AT&T 5G service (Not WiFi) while mobile (Going down the highway) have any connectivity issues ? Audio or sound quality issues ? I keep my mic at 50% and my EQ levels all centered. Do you hold your phone and use the PTT with the mic\phone close to your mouth ? Do you use a head set ? Do you use the Apple ear pods ? Do you use bluetooth surround sound in your vehicle ?

The reason I am asking is some listeners to me on my Flex on a HF net reported that my audio was high or did not sound clear etc. So I am wondering if there is a way to actualy test this ? Of course I should probably start off in a fixed location on WiFi then move to a fixed location on 5G then go mobile on 5G and compare the three.

But my number one reason buying a Flex 6400 in May 2023 was to be able to use it remotely. That was my number one reason for buying this radio.

Thank you.

    Hi James

i run 6600m and do both pedestrian and car mobil using iphone14…using bt headset ..takes a bit a tweeking to get audio that suites your voice…. work wiht some one you knoiw who really knows your voice and adjust it with them…i do add some highs on the EQ around 2k…i do not do it while driving..only operate when wife is driving…screen is too distracting and i am such an old school driver type

few hams here have managed to use cars bt feature to route audio…i have not tried it but maybe worth investigating for mobil ops..

pedestrian mobil whilke walking the dog allows me to monitor hf mobile nets on 40m like ECRS - East Coast Amateur Radio System on 7.255mhz

I found the Smart SDR IOS Version for Iphone to be much trickier to manipulate than for Ipad. I got a lot more responses and help on the Flex Radio Enthusiast page on Facebook than here. On this subject. But thank you for your reply.

Yes, I use my iPhone 14 with my Flex 6400 and it works good. In the car, it uses Bluetooth to use car's microphone and speaker system. The sound is quite good. When I am just walking around, I turn on speaker phone mode. Microphone seems to be better and speaker good. As far as adjust mic gain levels in both circumstances, it is critical to go to the apple phone mic input controls and adjust levels for best audio. Helps to record yourself on an SDR while you adjust so you can dial it in. If you don't, audio likely to sound like ****. Now, as far as connectivity, with Verizon LTE 4G or 5G with at least 2 bars, operation with radio is very good. Consistently connects and not much packet loss. The trick there is to turn FPS and Water Fall Rate way down low. Less data needs to be transferred. OK, good luck. Nothing like having a "radio station" in your pocket! lol. - Dan WA1QZX

I find on my iPhone 15 Pro Max setting the iPhone audio level to 16 is the sweet spot with the mic settings in left side menu at default.I’ve increased the 1 kHz, 2 kHz and 4 kHz slightly on TX EQ.

I get good audio reports on speakerphone, AirPods Pro, and car’s Bluetooth..
