There are 2 speaker icons, one at the top and one in the RX box.

Q1. are these AF or RF gain?
Q2. They are linked, Can they be unkinked? how?

I run 2 slices, one in DIGIU and one in USB both on the same frequency.

    Hi Peter, the one at the top of SmartSDR is the master AF volume control. The one in the slice is the slice AF volume control.

    I set my master to full and control each slice with its own volume control.

    RF gain is controlled in the ANT selector on the left side of SmartSDR.

    To further what Len said, if you right click on the slice speaker icon it will mute the audio only for that slice and if you click on the same icon it will open the slice window to adjust volume, pan, agc-t, etc. for that slice only.

    Besides what you're using 2 slices for, another application would be for DXpeditions working split with headphone for example. The DX station on Slice A you pan the audio to the left, adjust volume, agc-t to comfortable level, then set the split slice(s) to the right side. Depending on the operator's techniques and how often they change their tx frequency, I will use multiple slices to hear/follow the op QSO. This technique gets them in my log tremendously faster than, well, any other radio in my opinion.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
