6400-SmartSDR-MAC OS with Q5 2 meter transverter difficulty with 2 meter repeater operation

Member ✭✭

Bought a Q5 transverter to work with my 6400 everything works as it should on 2 meters on simplex but I am not seeing any audio when transmitting on 2 meters into a repeater (split operation). It works well on simplex but when I key while on a repeater the TX lights on the 6400 and the Q5 light up but there’s no audio being transmitted. Interestingly the signal strength display on the 6400 disappears (drops down). It’s like I have something in reverse. Any suggestion would be welcome.

Thanks

I realize I should probably be using split operation with trying to use a repeater. I’ve tried to set this up but am confused can anyone explain how to setup SmartSDR and the Flex for operating 2 meters FM? I’m using a Q5 transverter.

    Tnx

When I get home from Hamvention, I'll post some pics of how to set it up. I'm at a 5 star fine dining establishment (McDonalds...) on my way home now.

When you set the offset for repeaters in the FM "OPT" tab…..

    What offset are you using?

Normally, for 2 Meters, you should use +/- 0.6 MHz.

I have found some folks that put in the familiar "600" and are trying to use an offset of 600 MHz, which doesn't work.

Thanks Ken I’m using 0.6 MHz. I’m sure I just have a setting that’s not correct. KD0RC has offered to help later. I’ll let you now if I can’t resolve this.

    Thanks

Hi Sprocket, I am finally home from Hamvention (looong drive…). I have a club meeting tonight, but am available tomorrow. Is there any time that works for you? We can use TeamViewer or AnyDesk. Shouldn't take too long to get it sorted out.

Ken, it was great meeting you and the rest of the Flex staff at Hamvention!

    Len,

Thanks I’m available now thru 1:30 EDT today hope that works for you. Don’t have Team Viewer or AnyDesk, will they work on MacOS?

Hi Steve, I just got back from lunch and saw your post. I am free the rest of today and this evening as well as anytime tomorrow, Friday or the weekend. We should be able to get it all going without TeamViewer or AnyDesk.

    Len,

Great I’m home all night. Give me a call or message me here and lets get it working. Here’s a couple of screen shots of my setup, hopefully I’m close.

Hi Steve, I'm just about to eat dinner. I'll give you a call when I free up. I am sure that you are very close. The trick is that you only need one slice.

Glad to help! And tonight's dinner was shrimp alfredo at home. Gotta love McDonalds for getting back on the road quickly, but nothing beats a home-cooked meal!

    OK, what was it?

  • Member, Super Elmer Moderator

It was a combination of small things. The FM repeater options make it so that you don't have to run two slices. You can run two slices split-mode style, but it is easier to just use one slice.

There was also a problem with the wrong offset direction as well as the CTCSS tone. Once all that got sorted out, everything came up.

    Thanks Len,

That is what I noticed looking at the screen shots.

I access local repeaters often and I'm gald that Flex made the configuration pretty straightforward.

    Thanks for helping out!
