Anyone use a UPS with their 6600?

New to me 6600. House on backup generator but thinking a UPS not a bad idea if power blips before generator kicks in. Basically protect the radio. Over thinking??

I have two UPSs. Sine wave is important. 1500 w.

    Important items are

Internet and Ethernet equipment. Your radio computers and monitors. Your Flex radio and Tuner Genius.

You don’t want your modem/router rebooting. They can take a long time to reconnect. If your monitor screens turn off when they come back the screen layout will change. With the Flex you don’t want the radio going through a reboot.

The power drawn during power outage determines how long the UPS will maintain power. If you have an amplifier that is probably NOT on a UPS will be disconnected but the Tuner Genius will still give you a low power station. You will still be able to complete the QSO.

In the past I have had a momentary drop and would take 2 to 5 minutes to get back in operation. The metering on the UPS will show you how much AC power you are using and how long it will function. If you go out for a while it is frustrating to have to re-setup your station.

I have a 900 watt UPS. I like to protect radio and pc in case of power failure. Gives me time to shut down properly. Its a good idea to prevent problems

I have a UPS on my Astron 35Amp power supply that is connected to the Flex 6600M. I also have a separate Astron 35Amp power supply for my 2m/440 equipment connected to the same UPS. I leave both of these power supplies on when home, and turn the 2m/440 one off as I don't use these radios remotely. I mention the power supplies as the large transformer and filtering likely add to the noise filtering.

My other shack equipment (computers, synology NAS) is on a separate UPS. Both UPS's are "sine wave". I found that the simulated or modified sine wave UPS's increases the noise floor on the Flex. I was getting conducted and radiated noise. All are connected to the stations AC single point ground.

I have the FLEX remote turn on RELAY connection smart AC plug (KASA) and relay connected directly to the AC (not the UPS) so that the Flex will do an orderly shut down upon the loss of AC. It is not my goal to operate the station with a loss of AC. Just want to protect the radio. While a momentary ac outage might result in the radio shutting off from the opening of the remote relay opening, the radio will have power and shut down nicely if it's going to shut down. If the remote relay was connected to the UPS, the radio would do a hard shut down when the UPS battery was consumed. Having a Generator changes this scenario.

I have pretty much everything in my shack on two 1350VA UPS' including my 70A Astron PS. The ones I use are $129.99 each from Costco:

They're so fast that I've had to check around the house to discover the power had actually gone out - zero intruption time.

    Thanks everyone!

Off to order one -- really need it for that brief period before the whole house gen goes switches, this will be awesome insurance to protect this beast.

The steps beyond a conventional UPS are:

    1. Use a high capacity UPS with an external battery for longer life
    2. Use a station high capacity 12V battery (mine is 300Ah) with 14.4V charger

In addition use a network backbone on UPS with Power over Ethernet (POE at 60V) powering other switches
