Waiting

The wait for delivery of my 8600M is entering its eleventh month. Perhaps Flex will hand it over at the Hamvention dinner.

    Hi Neil,

Did you receive the FlexRadio Insider from March by email, Check below. Hope this helps.

FLEX-8600 / FLEX-8600MThe expectation is that we will clear the backlog of FLEX-8600 and FLEX-8600M models by the first week of May.  This backlog is larger than our 8400/8400M series and will just take additional time to work through.

So I guess I am looking at a week before the Flex Hamvention dinner, which will mark a one year wait.

I went through a similar frustration waiting for my 6600M when I pre-ordered it in May 2017 the Monday after Dayton. I am hoping it won't be that long this time with the 8600M I ordered in February of this year. If the Insider is close on the time-line, then it is possible that I could get my 8600M in middle to late May. The statement from the Insider said that they should be able to clear orders for the 8400M/8600M made prior to March 8th of this year by the first week in May. They must be getting ready to ship a lot more radios out soon. I imagine since you ordered your radio last May, you will probably get it much sooner than I will get mine.

I ordered my 6600M at the 2017 Hamvention and received it in February 2018. Have gotten a lot of enjoyment using it over the years.

That's when I received my 6600M at the end of February 2018. I had trade-in my 6500 and Maestro and paid off the balance before August 2017 as Flex Radio had said shipping would start in late August to early September 2017. So, I wanted to be paid up before then. I will be pleasantly surprised if my 8600M does ship in May.

Mike, I recently visited their website, and it seems that way. Apparently, they order a large quantity.

Rest assured we are doing everything we can to accelerate this schedule but as of the time we published this update these are the latest dates provided by our operations team.
For new orders placed March 8, 2025 or later, availability is 8-10 weeks from order date but know that we are working with our contract manufacturer and suppliers to pull that delivery window in.

FYI:  Any dates published here are subject to change but are current as of the date on the top of the newsletter.

Looks like I got in under the wire since I ordered my 8600M February 4th of this year. Of course, they didn't say May of what year!

Next question is how many years it will take Flex to publish an 8400M/8600M user guide.

  • Member ✭✭✭

I would think that the current 6400M/6600M User's Guide would be sufficient for quite some time. There isn't any physical differences ( outward) to operate the new radios. Only the GNSS receiver antenna is different. And it can be selected in the radio settings menu in the radio as a source.

Well, in addition to GNSS there’s adaptive prediction, viewing multiple bands in one spectrum and wide bandwidths for modes such as FT8.

Yes, that should be in the manual for SmartSDR. The M model manual won't need a lot of revision to cover additional features and how to access them from the front panel. I imagine once those features show up, Flex Radio will update both sets of manuals.
