Can Confirm 6000 series ATU works FB in 8000 series

I just received my new 8400 radio, and in preparing to sell my 6400 w/ ATU I decided to see if I could transfer the field-installable 6000 series ATU into my new 8400. Short answer: Yes!

I followed the Flex 6000 series install PDF in reverse, and soon the ATU board was on the workbench, along with 4x standoffs (the ATU was installed at the factory and included four standoffs, the upgrade kit only includes three, as I understand.)

Then, I simply followed the 6000 series ATU install procedure, taking a moment to marvel at the insides of my new radio. (I installed all four stand-offs, one of which is merely holding up the plate the ATU is on. By installing all four standoffs it provided me with the needed **** to attach the ATU plate to the back of the radio chassis.)

I hooked up power, antenna, and Cat5 into my laptop running 3.8.19 of SSDR, and voilá! Success!

So, since Flex clearly states the ATU is suitable for both 8000 and 6000 series radios, now you have confirmation that the swap is easily accomplished.

I hope some folks find this helpful - I'm very happy to not have to buy another ATU for my 8000 series radio.

That’s good news since the GPSDO is not transferable.

Nicely presented Ken! I would have been very surprised if the existing ATU didn't fit the 8000 series, but it is nice to see it confirmed.

I am curious why one word in my post was replaced with "****" - I simply used a common term for a threaded attachment, they come in two varieties, standard and phillips… oh well.

    Thanks for the kind words.

    The Community software is weird

Blank you. The word you got **** can be used in place of blank and offensive. Better to bleep words than to offend people. My last name technically has a space between the e and c. The second half of my last name could be considered as a derogatory word. Oh well…

Just the info I needed - thanks.

    Three Q's.

    1. When you upgraded was every thing else just unplug the old and plug in the new?
    2. How much did you sell your 6400 for?
    3. Did you notice a big difference with the 8400?

    Thanks - John KØFUZ
