Turning off XIT

Member ✭✭
Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but how do I turn off XIT.

The only way I've found is to turn the Maestro tuning knob carefully to get the XIT offset down to 0 Hz. It seems there must be an easier way that I'm missing.

(When the red LED is on, turning the Maestro tuning knob increases/decreases the XIT offset. If I press/hold the TX button, the red LED goes out, but the last-set XIT is maintained.)

tnx

Press and hold the RX button to activate RIT . Quick press the RX button to revert back to normal. Same thing with XIT, press and hold the TX button to activate XIT Quick press to revert back to normal.

Just an additional bit of information. Once you Quick press either button to clear RIT or XIT, you have to have to Quick press the respective button again to bring the slice receiver back. Kind of annoying to some degree. I would expect the Quick press to clear RIT and XIT to not only clear the settings, but to keep the slice receiver activate instead of having to press the button a second time to get it back. Maybe, this is a software defect that can be fixed in an update.

    Thanks for the response.

Things work as you say for RIT - a quick press turns off the slice receiver, and when pressed a second time it comes back with no RIT offset.

But XIT seems to behave differently. When there is an XIT offset, a quick press turns off the TX light (but the red LED remains lit, and when pressed a second time the TX light comes on - with XIT offset as set earlier.

I have been sitting here playing around with this on my 6600M and following the last manual for the 6600M and 6400M, the problem you mentioned occurs. Plus, according to the manual, after setting and using either RIT or XIT, another long press of the button for each function should clear RIT and XIT and return everything to normal. On receive using RIT, it works like I described earlier. But, on XIT it is like you described. It would appear this is a software defect. Neither function is working like it is described in the manual. I think you should open a Help Desk ticket so this can be passed along to the developers.

One way to clear both the XIT & RIT is to close and reopen the slice using the slice button ( A or B) in the upper right corner of the Maestro slice flag .

That's basically what I have been doing. But, the manual says you only have to long press the RIT and XIT buttons a secondtime, depending on which function you are using, to clear the offsets and return to normal operation. If it worked like the manual states, it would be easy to use. Instead, you have to go through a unnecessary step. It is apparent that someone didn't test this in the last few releases of SmartSDR for the M model radios and the Maestro. Otherwise, it would work like the manual states.

A long-press of the TX Button turns the XIT ON or OFF. But it doesn't clear the offset.

Perform a short-press of the VFO Tuning knob to clear the XIT offset.

Yes, Ken is corect. Short press of the smaller tuning knob clears XIT offset (resets to zero). Holding slice B TX button turns XIT off.

But, that is not what is stated in the manual. Plus, it disables transmit.

  • I thought perhaps I could set up an N1MM keyboard macro via SmartCAT to disable XIT on the 6600M — which appears to work.

Unfortunately, the Maestro doesn't detect that "some other controller" changed the XIT state on the 6600 so it still thinks it is on. So as soon as you touch the tuning knob on the Maestro, XIT is instantly reenabled and only the TX frequency moves. Bummer.

Reported to Flex Radio CTO Steve Hicks. Received a followup email from one of the techs.

    Hello Steve and James,
I entered this into our bug tracking system under SMART-10927 for further investigation. Thank you for the report.

To close the loop, a Helpdesk technician worked the issue a bit and concluded "I don't believe at this time there is a quicker way to turn it [XIT on the Maestro] off." (Ticket #70432)

That's fine. Then they need to revise the M model and Maestro manual to make it clear that a second long press of either functions respective button does not return everything back to its previous state. It's sad that something that can be fixed in code doesn't seem to be worth the effort to make the necessary changes.
