Problem Recording Audio (CW mode) in Smartsdr.

Member ✭✭

Hi all,
I can't manage to record the audio from CW signals, my details:

  • Flex Radio SmartSDR
    -Flex radio 6400
    – Audacity.
  • Under DAX control panel: DAX TX On.

Audacity settings:
Output, device: DAX Audio TX (Flex Radio Systems)

I suspect I have to change something in the Flexradio window?
It is a condition that I have to keep transmitting and receiving in CW mode.
Who can help me a bit on my way to being able to record the CW signals (transmit/receive).
Cees, PA3CVI

    Cees,

Yuri UT4LW has included recording in his SDC Contest module. SDC will record received and transmitted CW. I don't know what software you are using at the moment but SDC works very well and has many excellent features.

    Martin,
I don't know SDC, do you have a link?
    I use Audacity as mentioned.

Enable continuous or QSO only CW / SSB recordings in Contest > Misc > Enable REC function. File duration is configurable and the output .wav files are stored in C:\Users\computer-name\LwSoft\Contest\Record\contest profile name

which does not need to be a contest, it can be some generic name for everyday use.

If you really must use Audacity, the input recording is easily achieved so I won't insult your intelligence. Output recording, what you send, needs a trick:

Use the “FDX” in lower left corner, open a second panadapter , set the DAX to 2, RX antenna to “XVTR” , frequency to the required tone, enable slice B in DAX control panel, Audacity to DAX Audio 2. Now you will record your actual transmitted signal. You can mute the audio output of pan B so the slight delay won’t upset your sending. A video of the operation is at

    Erik thanks for the response.
From your explanation I understand that the setting is meant for contests only, where the contester stays on the same frequency and keeps calling CQ.
But I would also like to know how, not in contest, all received audio can be recorded continuously.
Maybe I should have placed my call somewhere else instead of "contesting", maybe I will do that after all.

Not at all, the recording function is the same for all transmissions and reception. It has no information about your frequency or use of and where you got that from I cannot imagine. I use it most days in continuous mode. I am using it this weekend in QSO only mode for the contest but it is not necessary to be in a contest. I don't think you can have installed it? It is easily configurable. I find it much more straightforward to use than Audacity but each to their own. You can also use QSOrder software but it is not strictly for Flex.

Erik, After installing SDC, version 173316x64, I don't get the option to follow the path as you show.

Yours: " Enable continuous or QSO only CW / SSB recordings in Contest > Misc > Enable REC function." what's going on?

This is the result of my installation.

To access the Flex API, SDC requires interfacing with SmartSDR and your radio. See the user manual or the SDC website for registration details. There is no fixed fee, the donation can be of any amount.

    Erik,

Just set up CW audio recording, works perfectly.
I still can't listen back to my own signal writing, it produces empty spaces in the AudioScope window.
Any idea how I can set that up?
