price of the 8400M with tuner?

in FLEX-6000 Signature Series

I realize that it was just announced yesterday. I have a 6600M. no mods on it. want to go with the 8400M. What is the difference in the 8400M and the 8600M. what will i be missing if I go with the 8400M?

    According to the website, the 6400M is $3449 and the 8400M will be $3649. I couldn't find any particular pricing for M+ATU. but I would assume adding the ATU would be similar to the 6400M.

    Hi John, here is a link to a chart that compares the 6400 to the 6600. The 8400 will have pretty much the same features as the 6400 and the 8600 will have pretty much the same features as the 6600, so this is still a valid comparison. The 8000 series will have Adaptive Pre-Distortion (APD) for cleaner transmitted signals. They will also have faster FPGAs and internal computers, which should lead to more features/performance in the future.

    The main things that you give up going from a 6600 to a 6400 or 8400 is a built-in tuner, 1 SCU instead of 2 (2 slices instead of 4), 3rd order instead of 7th order bandpass filters and 7 MHz instead of 14 MHz of panadapter max bandwidth. Take a look at the chart to see if the features of the 6400 meet your needs. If so, go with the 8400. If not, you will be happier with the 8600.

    To me, the primary advantage of 2 SCUs is not the additional two slices but the ability to monitor two antennas simultaneously. Note that the 8600 allows for the connection of two transverters instead of one.
