6600, PGXL and TGXL Configuration for 6 Meters

The title is a bit short so, here is my question…

Currently I have the Ant1 port on the 6600 connected to PGXL Input A, and Output A connected to the input of a 1x3 TGXL. Lets say I have ANT1 on the TGXL connected to a tri-band Yagi and ANT2 connected to a 40 Meters dipole. This all works as expected. ANT3 is unused. PGXL Input B and Outpuy B are unused.

I also have the Ant2 port on the 6600 connected directly to a 6 Meter Yagi. I can listen on 6 Meters and HF simultaneously. OK so far…

What I'm trying to figure out is to put the PGXL and TGXL in the 6 meter path and keeping the same capability.

I'll stop there as I have a couple ideas, but I'm looking for similar setups that work.

    • The problem is the 1x3 TGXL.
    • 1) If the SWR on the 6M Yagi is good you could run Ant 2 on the radio to input Port B on the PGXL and hook the 6M Yagi up to output Port B on the PGXL. This method omits the TGXL however.

    2) You could place a high-power antenna switch on the 6M Yagi and manually switch it between Ant3 on the TGXL and Ant2 on the radio. The issue with this is the radio remembers the antenna port it used the last time and you would have to make sure it is set right each time after you switch.

    3) My final solution is the most expensive but works great. Swap the 1x3 TGXL for the SO2R version and get a 2X8 AGXL switch. Any two antennas then can be used on the radio antenna port of your choosing with the tuner in line or not without any additional cabling or having to remember to flip a manual switch.

    Hi Rick —- Thank you for your suggestions.

    Your idea #1 is the most workable in the short term. I probably don't need the TGXL for the 6 meter antenna.

    Idea #2 brings up the promlem of having to remember the changes I need to make. It is certainly possible however in convenient. Perhaps with a bit more thought I could program a microcontroller or RPi to handle the details.

    Idea #3 is elegant but as you say expensive.

    as Rick said, if your 6 meter antenna is resonant where you operate then Radio ant2 to PG XL B in. 6 meter antenna to PG XL Ant B out. Use radio ant 1 for HF and radio ant 2 for 6 meters.

    Long term look at SO2R tuner and AG 2x8. Gives you more flexibility to use any two antennas at once with tuner available on 6 for when you migrate higher in the band.
