Compatible hand mic to FHM-3?

Member ✭✭

The PTT level broke inside the FHM-3 mic. I would like a less expensive replacement mic, and one that will last longer than my current FHM-3 mic. I don't need any controls on the mic except the PTT.

Hi Mike... I found the audio quality on the FHM-3 (and similar) to be not what I wanted, so I built a cable and breakout box that allows me to plug in a headset w/mic (I use a Steelseries at the moment) or a separate mic headset (no earphones) and a set of desk speakers.

The one end of the cable has plugs to go into the headphone and mic jack on the radio (a 6500), while the other end has the jacks compatible with the headset and desk speakers.

Maybe another alternative? It certainly didn't cost much...

    Hi Don,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

I have been using a Heil 781 on a boom with an adapter with the Flex , but I also use it on the FT-990. Therefore the need for a hand mic for the Flex.

Well, if you want the same form factor in your handmike and can find a seond hand Yaesu mike, they are basically the same unit. The only difference (AFAIK) is the plug on the end.

You could even switch out the broken PTT lever from one into the other...

    Don,

Which Yaesu mic is compatible with the Flex?

    What is "AFAIK)?

I have several old Yaesu mics. I can change plugs at the end of the cord if I know the wire configuration.

I found the answer to my question. The hand mic for my Yaesu FT-990 works fine on the Flex-6400. And adapter from the mic's 8 pin plug to the RJ-45 on the Maestro is needed.

Hi Mike... glad you found one that works. I have the same mike for the FT-991 and have adapters as well for my 6500.

AFAIK = As Far As I Know.
