6700 Frequency Instability.

IMG_1943.jpg

While running WSJT-X, I noticed the waterfall was very 'wobbly' and could not decode anything. I went to WWV at 15.000,000 and found the carrier had a slow back and forth +/- 50 hz instability (see attached picture). I reset radio to factory settings, checked PSU (Astron VS-35) and then replaced with a new Samlex PSU but no change to the instability. I didn't bother trying to recalibrate because with so much frequency shifting back and forth I didn't see how that would work. Its not my antenna/coax system, as everything looks great on my IC-705, so it seems the XO or its voltage supply is the likely problem.  Any advice or is this a return to factory?

HI Jerry, I would submit a help desk ticket.

I experienced this with my 6700 in the past, I gave the radio a rest with power disconnected and never seen it happen again. I was told Based on the screen captures I provided, the driver oscillator (the OCXO) may be periodically failing.

I had this happen several years ago with my 6700. It required a trip to Austin to fix.

I also had this issue occur with my 6700 a few years ago. I was sent to Austin for repair. No problems since.

Had mine repaired in Germany, European Service Center, a couple of years ago. It was said that this was a known problem and it wasn't to expensive to fix.
