CAT creates the wrong port number

I've been struggling for a while with not being able to create a new CAT port on one of my computers. after a few hours on investigation (reset/reinstall... all done) I just discovered that SmartCAT creates a port number -1 and then the process fails. What I mean is if I want to create COM PORT 5, SmartSDR creates COM PORTS 4 and 104. Picture attached.

    I deal with CAT connectivity problems 2 or 3 times a year; sometimes due to Windows updates, and other times for no reason at all... other than turning my PC on in the morning. The day before everything is working fine, then the next day it isn't. Very frustrating. This issue can quickly turn a pleasant Flex operating experience into wasted time hunting down the repair process(s), and going through them. It sure would be nice if SmartSDR had one button just for this CAT Repair process! Below are the procedures I go through to fix CAT problems:

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
