have the baud rate set to 4800 for each, using F to F DB9,
I think I had a bad serial cable at first they do talk to one another.
Thanks

Are you using a straight through or crossover cable?

I realize this is a less than clear posting. Initially it said "will not communicate" but I found I had a bad cable and eurica they do communicate. Yes its a straight DB9 to DB9 not a cross over.
