Sharing radio - multiple users

We are the radio club (W7ASC) at Arizona Science Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Having several members, we were wondering if we can have separate logins on the same Win10 PC, tailored to our individual usage.

How do we do this. Do we need multiple copies of SmartSDR or one copy loaded under ADMIN with access by all.

Any help is appreciated.

73 to all.

User configurations are not saved in the SmartSDR client software rather they are called up from the radio's flash memory so having different logins on the PC won't offer much ability to configure the radio settings per user.

A friend of mine and I share a flex 6400 he is remote, and I am usually local as the radio is in my shack. The best method we have found to tailor individual user preferences is to use FRStack. The memories in FRStack allow you to save more parameters than can be saved in the radio memories. As an example, you can save AGC-T settings in an FRStack memory, and you can use the memory to call up a defined panadapter bandwidth, microphone profile, TX profile, etc.

That way when my friend logs remotely in and selects one of his favorite memory channels in FRStack it also selects the PC Mic source and the mic profile for his headset.

When I select one of my memories it selects the local mic source and the mic profile for my PR781 desk mic. If we both use the radio at the same time FRStack allows me to monitor which band, frequency, and mode he is using and helps reduce conflicts.

I believe each user can have their own FRStack config that is associated with their Win 10/11 login, so when they login to their account on the PC it would launch FRStack with a config tailored for their preferences.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

FRstack runs on the local pc of each user, so each instance is unique. It adds a lot of additional features to the operation of the Flex. Highly recommended.

As far as SmartLink login - currently it supports only one SmartLink account at a time. You can have multiple SmartLink accounts created but the radio can only be registered to one at a time.

  • Thanks for the help.
Sounds like FRStack will answer our needs.
