Windows 11 Sound Setings

Windows 11 speaker icon in the Taskbar will no longer link to the old style, W7 sound panel. The new Sound settings is a hodge-podge of sliders and dropdown menus.

With multiple DAX devices, CODAC's, and audio devices it's very difficult to manage the sound settings using the new style. The old-style Sound panel allowed you to scroll through the sound devices and by double clicking on the icon, you could easily change the settings.

For now, taken from the Control Panel, I was able to place a Sound Shortcut on my Desktop, but you can't pin it to the taskbar. Who knows how longer that will last? The next update could remove the Sound Panel altogether making it difficult for us Hams to manage the sound devices.

At the bottom of the W10/11 Sounds settings there is a "Give feedback" link where you can voice your opinion. I urge flex Radio owners to do just that. If Microsoft gets enough feedback, maybe they will at least add the Sound panel link back to the speaker Icon and keep the old-style Sound panel.

    If you right-click on the speaker icon in the task bar (far right-hand end), it offers "Open volume mixer" as an option. It works much like Windows 10's mixer, except turned 90 degrees.

    If you do a Google search, you can find a replacement mixer that looks and acts like the one in Windows 10, but is designed for Windows 11. There are procedures to permanently show it in the task bar notification area, so that it really acts like the Windows 10 version.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
