6600M erratic encoder VFO A

My 6600M has a erratic VFO A issue. It acts like a mechanical issue and not a software issue. Moving the knob in either direction at times causes an opposite response. While tuning across any band the VFO will jump backwards or forwards a KHz or two. This is very annoying. My question is if this is a mechanical issue can it be fixed? I can fix things but if there is no way to get into the encoder then I would not even attempt. I have not popped the hood on the radio yet.

Hi Terry, I have had that exact phenomenon when using encoders on homebrew projects. In my case, the issue was a bad connection on one of the legs of the encoder. I believe it can also be a bad encoder. But before jumping to too many conclusions, I would do a re-boot of the radio, and perhaps a factory reset (after doing a profile backup). If neither of those help, then it is probably time to submit a helpdesk ticket.

Terry, my 6600M has just gone back to flex for the same issue but with the volume control, It would go up or down on its own.

Am waiting for hear back on what it was.

As Len says, try those actions and if not open a ticket, Tim was great and very speedy.

    Terry:

I have a "A: model Maestro which had/has he same problem, encoder B is solid. I sent it back to Austin, they replaced the VFO A encoder. The Maestro encoder A worked fine and then reverted back to its bad behavior just after the warranty expired. Since that happened I have used VFO B (Slice B).

A year or so later (about 7 months ago) the Maestro repaired it self , the VFO A encoder is again working great. It appears that I have an intermittent problem, I think the problem is in the up/down circuitry. I think it only a mater of time before encoder A starts messing up again.
