MultiFlex: Why does switching to 40m increase noise floor

Flex 6400 with latest v3 SW.  If I have two connections to the rig (PC or Maestro, doesn't matter) switching to 40m on one rig will increase the noise floor on the other rig.  The increase only seems to happen when I switch to 40m and it increases the noise floor on the other rig in all bands (especially 20m).

It's not huge, but it's certainly noticeable. Why would like happen and is it normal?

TIA.

Have you checked to see if the preamp setting changes when selecting 40M?

If one client is on a different band than 40 meters the bandpass filters in the radio will be disabled. You will see WIDE in upper right corner of panadapter display to indicate the filters are disabled. That can increase your noise floor.

Remember, the 6400 has one SCU so both clients share the same antenna.

    Makes sense.  Thanks, David!
