Experience with Flexradio remote site utilizing satellite upload-download service like Hughesnet
Gents, I am searching for any Flex user who has experience in operating a remote station that utilizes a satellite internet service like Hughesnet or Viasat...download speed is claimed to be 25MHz and upload is 3 Mhz which I think is sufficient however I am concerned about latency--being 500-1000ms? Any users out there with experience? I have a remote station with no cable or DSL service...using a Verizon unlimited plan now but their tiers after hitting reduces the upload-download speed to unacceptable levels....thanks, Mark WC3W

I have tried remote operating on board planes with satellite service. It "works". But problems with latency so in practice I think it's useless. You have to wait for Elon Musk's Starlink service. This will be awesome for remote operation. Almost no latency at all

I would have to agree with Adde. Years ago my friend attempted to install a IRLP node at his house in NE Washington. Nothing around for miles. Since IRLP used UDP the packet loss and delay caused what we called the Max Headroom effect. Latency, dropped or double packets. It wasnt fun using. However we played with the node for months, and he has since changed providers three times and found a better one. Still somewhat the same problem but at least its usable now.0
