Occasional brief bussing sounds in headphones

FLEX 6400 and Maestro - Has anyone experienced occasional short (perhaps a half second or less) bursts of a buzzing sound in their headphones or speakers? The bursts may be less than a minute apart up to several minutes apart. I normally use my headphones so don't know if it is doing it on the Maestro speaker, as well. When it happens, the RX audio is completely replaced by the buzzing sound. I have experienced it when operating both SSB and CW. Just wondering if my radio is "special", or if others hear this from time to time.

K 7JV, yes. 6500 and SSDR here. I not only hear it but I can see it on the waterfall. It has been with me for several years. Looks like the contacts are arcing on some household appliance in my neighbors home. I just ignore it.

It could be something like that, and ignoring it will likely be the modus operandi. It actually does sound like an arc. I don't seen it on my waterfall, though. So I don't know if it is coming in thru the RF front end, or if it is being generated within the receiver logic. In the future, maybe I'll get lucky and be able to record it and post the audio clip of what it sounds like. Thank you, Roy, for your thoughts. You could be right on.

You might want to try the WNB noise blanker (DSP menu item on the RX flag). It works wonders on some noise (and not at all on other noise). I usually have mine set around 20 or so, but you can experiment When you turn it on, it takes a second or two to latch on to the noise and **** it, so don't turn it on and off quickly looking for an A/B comparison. You might also look at your noise floor. Mine drops several dB when I engage the WNB in the presence of certain noise (sometimes up to 10 dB!!). I believe it is designed around power line arcing, so it might do the trick for you.

I have heard "noise" from my Maestro when the Local Area Network connection was having problems maintaining a good connection.

Thank you, Len. I turned on my WNB at about mid-level and will just leave it on and see if I hear any difference. Alan, the network as a potential source is a great thought, too. When I get "off-LAN", I'll see if I experience it with the laptop or my iPhone connection. It could be either the Wifi or the Ethernet. Two great things to look for, and I will.
I wish I could re-create it, but I can't. It just happens at random, and when it does, like I said, it only lasts less than a half second each time. So it's pretty elusive. There is no evidence of it on the waterfall, so I'm pretty sure it is not coming in thru the RF "front end", but rather is being generated within the radio. The why and what causes it question is what really remains. Very high likelihood that it will just be a quirk that I have to live with. If that's as bad as it gets, I'm golden.

Yes, I too believe it is caused by a poor network connection.

I have experienced this with and without using my Maestro and via Smartlink with and without the Maestro
