HRD manual states vCOM virtual serial port drivers from N8VB must be installed for Flex to connect to HRD. I am having trouble locating such, is this really nessary?

No. The HRD documentation is incorrect. This information is only applicable to the FLEX Series SDRs running PowerSDR.
SmartSDR and the FLEX-6000 provide SmartSDR CAT that has integrated virtual com port software.
I would make HRD aware that their documentation is incorrect.7 -
I would agree with K1DBO as well. I use slicemaster too with hrd for slow scan, dm780 for digital modes and logging. A fellow HRD support person was my elmer so I did get great advise and tech support locally. Good Luck5

Thanks Tim, I thought so but I've tried everything to get my new **** Windows 10 computer to connect. It seems to work fine with the Flex 6400M but will not connect to HRD though I have had it working briefly only to lose it when restarted. I'll keep plugging away though. I really appreciate your reply. 730

If you cant get it working you can email me directly my email is available via my call on qrz.. I could send you some screen shots of my settings if that would help you.
HRD is working well with my 6400m . No major issues at all. Set up a virtual cat port first which will make connectivity easier. W9GD

Slice Master is another option here.
Instead of connecting to the virtual COM port provided by SmartSDR CAT, HRD Logbook can make a network connection to Slice Master. You dont even need to run the HRD Rig Control component.
Of course Slice Master isnt for everyone. But if you like the other features it has to offer, my recommendation is to used it instead of HRD Rig Control. I've even read rumors of HRD support staff recommending it to Flex users.
