remote via maestro setup

I'm preparing to operate a contest remotely , a Flex 6600 in a remote location, the Maestro at my QTH with my PC....I'm going to use N1MM+., when I start configuring the virtual ports, can I set that up without connecting to the radio? Or do I need to connect the maestro to the radio on the remote end before the virtual ports appear?

    i am not clear on the Mestro. But with SSDR you must be connected so taht CAT can see an active connection to hokk in to. I suspect that it it´s the same with the maestro.
