Thank you all for the advice on this issue.  I removed my USB sound card and plugged my PC speaker system into the PC supplied sound card.  Windows recognized the speakers and set them as the default audio device.  I tried loading three different third party digital  mode programs and no DAX audio was present.  I tried switching DAX channels with no success.  I see streaming audio on the DAX Control Panel .  When I enable DAX on the SmartSDR TX menu and transmit from the digital programs, no DAX TX audio is present.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Bob, KN4HH

This is the second time posted the same solution within two days!!!! it is the DAX drivers conflict to the standard sound engine of my machine...it can be fixed (at least in my case) by manually un- & reinstalling the DAX drivers, see this https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/204017069-How-to-Manually-Re-Install-DAX-Drivers.
Caution: do not try to run the smartSDR before do the job with the DAX drivers...

    Hope it will help,

Are you meaning no audio to other software programs like Fldigi or do you mean you cannot hear the radio?

DAX performs the audio function that the sound card you revived did. Don’t confuse pc audio with digital mode audio they are two different animals. DAX is extensively covered in the manuals. I hope I haven’t confused you. Keith W7ZAC

OK, folks. Sorry for the bandwidth. For clarification, there are no issues with pc audio. I followed the Flex guidance to plug an audio device into the pc sound card and set it as the default sound device. I hear the my Flex 6500 just fine. I then enabled DAX channel 1 on SmartSDR. I see streaming audio from the radio on the DAX Control Panel . I then loaded WSJT-X and made sure that DAX Audio RX1 was selected. I receive an error message that there is a problem opening the audio device. I see the same results with FLDigi and WSPR. The Flex solution made no mention of having to reinstall the DAX drivers. If necessary, I will do that..

I know Flex says it is not necessary to uninstall prior to upgrading. That said I have found it can avoid issues if I run a complete uninstall of all Flex software, reboot, and install fresh. You may want to try that.

There should not be any issues to avoid bye uninstalling old Versions.
It is a common practice by testers to have many versions installed so they can go back and forth a lot.
There is just no known issues of keeping older versions.

I have several on my computer and everything alway works really well.

I understand there should not be an issue with having multiple versions and that tester do this. All I said is MY experience has been doing the uninstall has reduced encountering issues and having to do troubleshooting. This became my practice with the 1.x releases. Basically, your mileage may vary.
