I use Acronis True Image.  I take a full (incremental) backup of my entire Win 10 system weekly.  I am running an extra one right now in case something goes wrong with the SDR 2.51 upgrade.  This has saved my **** more than a few times.  Whatever solution you decide on I STRONGLY  recommend testing the restore before you actually need it.  Many folks (including me) have slept well thinking they were backed up only to find a problem when they needed to restore.

I use EasyUS to make image backups. My computer has an SD card slot and I make two image backups on the SD chip which I keep in the computer at such time I need a restore. Also use WintoUSB and run my computer on a thumb drive instead of the hard drive. Also use metered connection on my Ethernet adapter so I can control windows updates.

I guess the Standard Windows 10 Backup Is not enough within Windows 10 Is that a correct statement ? Mike

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is a great choice and it's free.

Edit: Sorry for the double (almost) post.

Did you do the one time purchase or Use the Acronis 1 year Advanced or Premium Subscription Plan which sounds like a Cloud Backup plan Mike

I did the 1 time purchase a while back.  I think I bought a 3 computer bundle so I can do my laptop and wife's computer as well.  I back up tp a 5 TB external hard drive.  I have thought about switching to cloud backup but haven't made the jump.  I fire in my office/shack would be catastrophic as I have no off site backup.

Windows 10 backup create a system image works excellent. I save my image to my D drive and a NAS Server Drive, 2 days ago I needed to restore my drive and it worked wonderfully by searching my drive and locating it to restore.

Agree with Geoff - Perfect solution
Easy as pie to setup, free and does exactly what it's supposed to.
Will let you choose individual files to restore or the whole computer.

If your issue is around restoring after updates, I'd encourage you to look into "restore points" within windows. I second the recommendation to use Microsoft backup. I'd tell you to get a drive 2x the size of your primary drive and have windows backup use it exclusively.

    Hi Mike,

Windows 10 System Restore is one way of recovering from a botched installation resulting in corrupted drivers. This Windows 10 function is not usually enabled by default.  Here is a tutorial:
    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-restore-windows-10

I use Macrium Reflect Free to perform image backups and for cloning drives. The free version does not provide incremental file system backups. https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Macrium saved me once and a friend twice.

Be sure to disconnect your external drive after you have copied a backup or image to it. In the event you are hit with ransomware your backup drive cannot be infected.

Hi Guys.  I have not had much luck correcting my DAX/Upgrade issues using Windows Restore.  While we are on the subject, I have had 1 or 2 BSODs when starting SSDR which has resulted in corrupted DAX and CAT drivers.  Only a full Windows restore has helped.  The problem may be caused by the fact that I start SSDR witth a script file which loads a bunch of related programs (Slicemaster, FRStacks, etc.)

Been using  Active@ Disk for over ten years, you can creat a stand alone bootable cd/dvd/usb ect.

Since Acronis is machine specific I'm now using free AOMEI Backupper for more flexibility. Both work fine and are easy to use.

Buy a handful of SSD's for ~$25 each and rotate 3 or more of them with each computer in use. That's real cheap protection.

    External drive docking station example:

Each of my HB computers has a built in SSD/HD docking station to change drives quickly. Makes life simpler.
