Receiver in the 6700 and 6500 , are they the same ?

I've heard folks say the Receiver in the 6500 was the same as the 6700 minis the 4 slices of-course and I understand you can't do diversity and other things . I'm asking  out of curiosity . I was looking in the Sherwood Engineering list and didn't see the 6500

    The receivers are much the same. But the 6700 has more preselectors and more preamp steps. the 6500 stops at +20 and the 6700 stops at +30.

    The hardware that makes up what is called a receiver in a traditional radio is called a Spectrum Control Unit (SCU) in the FLEX-6000 series of radios.  The SCUs in the 6500 & the 6700 are pretty much identical.  The difference is that the 6700 has 2 of them, while the 6500 only has one.

    The 6700 has a more powerful FPGA so this also allows you to zoom farther into the noise floor, dropping the noise floor and letting weaker signals pop out.

    Ed, I am using a 6500 and it has been great, more radio than I need for my small station considering what I do with it.
    Do you use Flex already?

    You won't be disappointed I stepped up to the 6500 from a 6300 and am quite happy with my purchase.

    Hi Bill, yes I'm using a 6600 now and for the past 10 months . It was a bit of a learning curve but well worth the effort. Now with the 6500 I'm planning what bands / antennas to put on each radio.

    In addition to having a second SCU the 6700 SCU's are higher performance resulting in addition frequency coverage
    6700:    Wideband Frequency Coverage 30 kHz - 72 MHz; 135 - 165MHz

    6500:   Wideband Frequency Coverage 30 kHz - 72 MHz

    My 6700 receive preamp setting stops at +40.  And although I don't own a 6500, I seem to remember someone saying it stops at +32.

    6500 stops at +20   so your saying the 6700 stops at +40.  ok that 2 more possisions more.

    Yes IIRC the 6700 gives you 4X the maximum frequency resolution of the 6500. I.e. 1/4 the min. bin width. Very neat.
