10 Minute Timer for ID Reminder

Member
edited April 2020 in New Ideas
Just thought it would be nice to have a countdown timer that we could attach our own sound bite to, with a visual indicator to remind us to identify. Maybe make it customizable for time intervals, different visual alerts, attach our own sound file.. Thanks for the consideration - Phil N6ERP

The World's Most Expensive Alarm Clock has already been invented:

    http://www.clockvault.com/clocks/decohowto.htm

It has an interval alarm as well as a conventional 24 hour alarm. It comes with a buzzer WAV file but you can substitute your own file with the same name.

.... this idea is much more **** then the Flex connection of the dish washer or popcorn maker. Do you also need a toilet reminder every 30 minutes, and all 2 hours to take your pills? Come on and say you have made a joke!

Phil unfortunately some people don't see things the same . I agree and have said the same thing through the sdr 1000 days, the next generation and not the 6000 series. I have owned nine flex radios and now run a 6500 serial number 50. I do not understand with all the features in the new software why we must download a 3rd party program when it could be included in the software we have. So you question is not ****, if fact it would I courage users to id as they are suspose to. Maybe if enough of us ask for it it woukd come!

Dale - Thank You.. You explained exactly what I feel as well.. This is not a priority item, but would make a nice embellishment to a peice of software that is the definer of an entire radio series. Seems to me it could be included in a way as to not be distractive, but an easy to access "Bell or Whistle" that would increase Flexibility and sales.

This month's QST has just such a construction project. No, it doesn't use SDR. Clearly ARRL is so last century.

Hah! Now that's funny about being last century. But, still, everytime I look at the flex SSDR I think to myself, this would have cost a fortune for this piece of "test gear" or "other" just a few years ago.

That , likely, isn't the case. There just aren't enough units out there in Amateur Radio to have mass production effect the economics of pricing. That is probably why we see the ic-7300 come out significantly below $2000. Yes, there will be people on here that will bash it for being not-a-flex. ICOM probably produces enough radios that production costs are far lower. This is why I referenced production runs of 200,000 and 2,000,000.

My point was that not long ago, a spectrum analyzer would have cost from 25-100k+ and were not available to the average ham shack. Now we have something much more than a Spectrum Analyzer, and it is available to the average ham, and in their home even.. It's something that I didn't imagine owning 25 years ago.. I think that is pretty cool..

So, with all the features this fine radio includes, how about adding a timer function some day and that will add another "Bell/Whistle". Many SSB ragchew operators would find it handy.

    I don't see anything **** about it.
