I recently cancelled my Maestro order when I discovered it had no facility for driving an external HDMI monitor. It seems to me this would be a very useful and obvious facility and might widen the appeal of this already brilliant product.

    ... i thinking also for canceling. Maestro has no connection for my coffee maker and shows not if the dish washer ready.

    Me too It does not have an outlet to plug in my cold **** dispenser. Realistically running a HDMI display will happen when the 6000 series can run multiple simultaneous instances of GUI via a PC.

    Run it on an iPhone and use Air Play to stream to a video monitor as large as an amphitheater.

    Peter, I believe you missed the target audience and role of the Maestro. It was obvious this is NOT a PC or intended to be a replacement for one. If it was then there would be no need to continue with SSDR software.

    The Maestro was designed to give a user portable and/or remote operation in a relatively small footprint. If you consider the wifi and battery capability it helps you understand the intended purpose. If you are doing Field Day or an Expedition an HDMI monitor for tuning a radio is not needed.

    Of course this doesn't mean you couldn't use it in place of PC, which many will do but not the sole purpose.

    Besides until they come out with a foldable 30" HDMI monitor that I can put in the case it doesn't do me much good. :)

    Also, curious can you list the number of other radios you have that support hdmi monitors ?

    I don't think "portable and/or remote operation" totally encapsulates the target market.  I think Maestro is also very much targeting the contesting market and general users who simply want a knobbed front panel.

    Maybe, but why need Knobbers battery and WIFI ? But Knobbers need HDMI for 95" TV flat screen :-)  and Maestro no offer.

    Buy a Microsoft Surface Pro 4. Amazing with SSDR! And, HDMI for free! I too, thought I must have knobs to be bona-fide ... but no longer. The secret is a good wireless mouse or pointing device. I am evaluating them now .. as we speak! Moving past knobs and into the future ...

    Perhaps when Flex adds the HDMI port to the Maestro they'll also offer us a large optional backpack so we can carry along a large flat screen monitor!  Oh, and with extra room for a portable generator, big amp, tower, and HF yagi too!  Sorry... too much coffee this morning. :)

    Perhaps having a unit that would run the flex without SSDR might be a good thing. Especially with all the issues that have been occurring the past year with SSDR.

    Ahh yes... Cortana the magical station assistant...While attempting to voice train "her" the other day, I uttered some profanity. The female voice & profanity brought my wife to the shack door inquiring as to my activities... LOL...

    As a person who uses 2 very large monitors, I pretty much consider the Maestro an attractant to the group that prefers knobs and switches to computer screens. To me, it's a perfect compromise, although one I don't have much interest in myself.

    Maestro is just another computer running a specalized version of SSDR. The upside to that is, there is but one hardware platform to support for it's version of SSDR. Unlike supporting varying user PC's and their hardware issues(and drivers), Flex should have finer control over issues with SSDR in Maestro. One reason that makes Maestro an attractive , (although expensive) option, if one wants knobs and portability in a single device. WD5GWY

    In the contesting mode a Maestro typically would be in Parallel to a PC, as one will be needed for logging.  That is the configuration FRS had been showing at conventions.

    As a sort of "all around the house device" the Maestro's wireless independence is a driving feature, that while it doesn't preclude an HDMI output doesn't require it either.

    My "Moveable Operating Station" will become a Maestro and a Laptop for flexibility.  Expecting at times to run both on batteries. 

    With that sort of configuration if FRS offered a software module that would repeat or emulate the Maestro's touchscreen, it would be really nice to include that in the PC's display - which all could be run out to an HDMI connected large-scale monitor.

    tiny PC's that cost under $200 and run on 12v make the Maestro way to expensive.
    My asus tiny pc runs ssdr great.

    I run a 6300 with a  PC-on-a-stick, but it is no Maestro.

    Having played with a Maestro prototype at the W9DXCC it became very clear to me how the Maestro would be a "team-player with a PC" and not a "PC-replacement."

    We can argue the debate between dedicated device and adapted generalized PC.

    There is a place for both and neither fully could replace the other in my shack.

    YMMV of course. 

    Proof will be once Maestri are out in the wild.

    As an aside, I don't think I would have given up my pre-order, rather with doubts I would have let my distributor (or FRS if here) know I didn't want to be first. 

    Several hams did this in the Flex-6700/6500 rollout, and thereby kept their options open.

    I did that with the 6500. As we were in the process of moving out then moving in. Consequently, many people got the radio's earlier than they otherwise would have. By 'that' I meant deferred, not cancelled.
