Our CTO here just brought in some cool tech
The Intel Compute Stick.
possible uses
-Flex Remote
-lighweight DXPedition PC client to get these signatures out on an island
-reduce shack PC foot print.
Quad core Atom.. 2gb ram in a candy bar..
Intel graphics accelerator
Windows 8 pre loaded
HDMI/USB ports..
Wifi
125 bucks!
Ill see if I can get SSDR running on it with a logger instance and see how and if she plays.. In any case this is what its coming down to... if it doesnt work now it will soon.. will let you know. the NUC platform now has haswell procs..

Agree. Currently working on 4 Intel NUC boxes (Haswell) for full battery operation, only 1 for my flex. Using a fast SATA SSD makes it a very responsive box, the on-order PCIe SSD devices with 2GB read enters the unknown arena where I/O response may exceed CPU capabilities.0

oh cool Stan.. what are you using to convert the 12v dc to make the NUC's run? may work for these as well.....0

Neat stuff0

The NUCs are rated for 12-19V but do not specify a tolerance. Just now getting into testing how low the voltage can go before failure.
There are many very cheap voltage boost boards available (1" square) that can go on a cable with limited cooling and probably less EMI suppression. That, if necessary, is the next step.
