Transmit RCA TX1 Disabled/Enabled during Radio setup

Member
edited March 2019 in SmartSDR for Windows
During each initial Turn On/Startup of the FLEX, I have to reset the Radio Setup Transmit RCA TX-1 to Enabled which is needed to get my external AMP to Key. Also, the Hardware ALC Must be enabled. This initial Radio Startup Transmit configuration will not keep the startup settings. Is there any way to save these settings?

This should not be an issue with the latest version of SmartSDR 1.0.24. I recommend you write down or take screen shots of your settings. Then shut down SmartSDR and your radio. NOTE: THIS WILL ERASE ALL THE SETTINGS IN YOUR RADIO. Now while pressing the OK button on the front panel power on the radio. This will reset the radio to factory defaults. TX1 works perfectly here for keying my amp. Mack W4AX Alpha Tester

Mack: Thanks for the info. I am running the latest SmartSDR 1.0.24 and DAX. When my FLEX 6500 is not in use for several days, I turn it off including the power supply. Everything works as advertised when it is powered up and in use. However, if I want to run the FLEX, with my AMP, I can not key my external amp. The FLEX operates as designed except the AMP PTT Relay will not key, using the FLEX TX1 RCA connection, I must open up FLEX Radio Setup, select the Transmit tab and enable RCA TX1. Then everything works normal. I have to make these settings each time I restart my FLEX. I was wondering if the Radio Setup retained any of the settings?? It appears that the TAB settings for CW, Transmit, Receive in the Radio Setup does not keep the settings.

Bill, I think Mack was trying to get you to do the full Radio reset, not just a power down reset. Like he said, this will clear any of the persistence settings you may have. My TX keying has never missed a beat, might also try not enabling the ALC , as I never use the ALC here so never enable it .. A properly designed amp and correctly set controls, you should not need any ALC .. Carry over from the old Swan 500s and Galaxy V transceivers without any RF level control.. :-)

Dudley: I had previously made a Factory reset and reload of all software when beta was issued. Have not attempted to use my Amp until Yesterday. Could not get the Amp to key (PTT) until the FLEX RCA TX1 eas enabled. Don't know why I have to "Enable" the Transmit RCA TX1 in the Radio Setup Menu just to key the AMP. I keep the RF output from the FLEX turned down very low when running the amp and therefore I do not need any ALC using this process. My FLEX will not key the TX1, TX2, or TX3 unless the necessary RCA TX1, TX2 or TX3 button is enabled in the Radio Setup Transmit menu. My Henry Amp uses the OLDER ALC controlling. However, I keep the FLEX driving RF low, watch the Amp's grid current and do not use ALC.

Mack and Dudley: Made another Factory reset. All is working again. I hope that having to make so many Factory resets to resolve issues will not harm the radio. I have had to make three so far since Dec last year.. Thanks All. Bill W4EY

Bill, As an alpha tester I am on a personal mission to squash as many persistence bugs as possible before the end of January. Mack

Hi Mac, Are you trying various shutdown and turn on techniques of the radio when you are chasing these bugs? I.E. the PS feeding the radio left on or turned off etc. I suspect some of these bugs or lost persistance is related to complete removal of radio power or RF getting on the power feed at the radio. I have eliminated a lot of early "mysterious events" by winding mutliple turns of the 6700 power cable through a 1 1/4in Mix31 core. regards Larry K1UO

I absolutely endorse the "enable" switches for TX1,2, 3 as it allows two amps online and screen control with SSDR. My amps are wired nose-to tail and are "ready" with the enable/disable in the settings TX tab. Thank you Steve :-)
